There are things I don’t understand, things I never will.

Was it so bad here?

Was it so unbearable that you couldn’t stand the pressure building beneath your skin?

The longing to snort, inject, smoke, all your demons before they consumed you.

You followed them into the dark,

Leaving us behind.

Could you not bear to look at me, is that why you left?

Was it me?

Me, the mistake,

Me, ever the disappointment.

Mother says it wasn’t, but she never talks about you.

I don’t think she can stand to look at me, either.

I know I can’t.

Every time I look in the mirror, I see your smile,

I can’t forget you no matter how much I bleach my hair

Because it always grows back the same.

The same as yours.

Some things I’ll never understand,

If you wanted to leave so bad,

Why didn’t you write a letter?

Or at least tell me you loved me before you took those last pills.
