"Sakura, have you decided to do this?"
I saw myself standing under a large tree. It was dusk, with a bright red sun hanging in the blue sky, illuminating everything on earth with its orange glow and colouring the nearby trees and grass in a reddish-orange hue.
"I..."
In front of me stood a figure dressed in a folk costume. The waving garnet hair gave a sense of familiarity, and I could never forget that beautiful, striking, white, feathered cloak.
At that moment, I heard a faint ‘click’ sound from somewhere.
"Mageka who has been bestowed the name of Princesa de Claridade, have you truly decided to leave me?"
Moments of silence came after the figure spoke. Then I heard some footsteps from a distance, seemingly coming from a hard floor.
But am I not standing on grass? Where could those footsteps be coming from?
"Poesia..."
"Sakura... Sakura? Sakura?" Suddenly, a hurried voice called into my ears, which also rang a bell, but for some reason I had a hard time recalling who these two voices belonged to.
"Stop it! I really can't make a decision!" Irritated by the constant urging of both voices, I subconsciously shouted.
"What decision?"
The question startled me awake. A figure with long azure hair and a worried expression came into view.
I was gasping for breath, trying to calm myself down.
Was that all just a dream?
"Sakura? Are you okay? Why did you suddenly yell out the words ‘make a decision'?" Kou asked worriedly.
Her words affirmed that it was indeed a dream.
But why did she appear in my dreams all of a sudden?
Ignoring Kou's question, I rubbed my head and pondered.
I had not dreamt of her in three years, so why did it happen out of the blue today? Was it because I’d started to question my reason for leaving Glace in the first place, that she came over to give me a prophetic dream?
No, there’s no way. That gal is still asleep; what kind of prophecy could she possibly give me!
"Sakura? Can you hear me? Do you need to see a doctor?" Seeing that I had yet to give a proper reaction, Kou's worry began to spiral.
"Nope, I’m all good." I finally regained my senses. “And you’re back!”
Relieved that I responded, Kou asked anxiously, "It's only six o'clock, why’re you back so soon? I thought you were gonna work overtime today as well... Were you dismissed early today?"
It's already six o'clock?
I looked out the window. The warm wind blowing in felt as hot and stuffy as summertime. I could barely sense winter approaching in a month.
"Of course not. It’s just that I’ve accumulated too many overtime hours, so I decided to take a half day to come home and rest." As I spoke, I noticed my voice sounded hoarse, and my head felt heavy.
I’ve already taken a nap, but was that not enough for me to recover?
"Rest? Are you alright?" Seemed like ‘rest’ was the trigger word for Kou. Her worry intensified.
"I’m only feeling a bit headachy and light-headed. There’s nothing to make a fuss about," I explained at once.
Kou, however, seemed to ignore what I said and sat down on the edge of my bed. With a motherly tone, she said, "You don’t look okay at all! Geez, look at the state of you, so worn out... and you're running a fever! This is a big deal!"
After feeling my forehead with her palm, she kept shaking her head. Not until I followed suit did I believe her words. I had to admit - it was indeed quite hot.
"That’s it, I’m calling the doctor... where did I put Dr. Lam's business card?"
"Hard pass, I'll be fine after a nap." I halted her from searching for the business card for Dr. Lam, the family doctor whom she often sought help from.
It’s merely a case of headache caused by fatigue. I’ll be all healed up after a couple hours of sleep. There’s no need for a doctor.
"No, kids shouldn't be stroppy!" She refused.
I felt helpless. She was too deep into her ‘mother’ character.
I may be younger than you by a month, but I'm no kid!
But I was too tired to start an argument with her.
"I’m not trying to be difficult! Look, a bit of rest and I'll be just fine! I'm gonna sleep now. Come get me in two hours!" I tried to get her to leave.
"Fine." Seeing my fierce determination, she had no choice but to give in. "But what about dinner tonight? You should get some rest in. Don't overwork yourself. How about I cook?"
"No no no no! Just order takeout! You don't have to cook!" Feeling immediately worked up, to the point that I almost jumped out of bed, I declined her offer.
I refuse to see a kitchen that looks like the aftermath of a nuclear explosion after I recover! The cleanup would be such a pain!
"Alright, I'll order takeout and wake you up later. Rest well." It could be an act out of concern for me, but to my surprise, she did as I said rather than continue pestering me.
She stood up and walked away, yet paused by the door. "I don’t think you should be out looking for 'vampires' tonight."
"We'll see when the time comes," I replied vaguely and turned away.
I'm not cancelling my plans when no useful information has been obtained yet. We don't even know where they live. Until the mystery becomes clear, I intend to go out every single night.
"Good night," Kou closed the door gently as she spoke.
In that split second, I saw a face full of worry peeking through the crack.
She really is concerned about my condition.
But hey, it's only six o'clock now, what’s with the ‘good night’?
Oh well, nevermind that.
After adjusting back to the supine position, I closed my eyelids slowly.
I'll carry on with my ‘vampire’ search tonight! This level of fatigue won’t be a problem.20Please respect copyright.PENANAmNiI0vmRTA
