True to his word, the deranged president visited Infinity again a few hours later.
“Infinity, young lady, I have a few more questions,” he said quietly, flipping open his notebook. “You said you were…”
“Fifteen.”
“Right, thank you. My mind is not what it used to be.”
“No kidding,” she muttered under her breath.
“Yes, well, you are fifteen. That is about the age… Now, tell me, Infinity, have you noticed any… strange changes in your body in the past few years?”
Her mouth dropped open. “Eww! You pervert! What in the ever-loving-” She lashed out in a few Russian curses that Cameo had taught her, though she immediately regretted it when the Russian brought back a flood of memories, both good and bad.
“Please, young lady,” Jaiden interjected, looking pained. “I didn't mean it like that. I meant more along the lines of enhanced vision, strength, hearing, etcetera? Strange electrical pulses throughout your nervous system?”
“No! And get out, you creep!” She stood up threateningly and took a step towards the president. A bodyguard crept into her peripheral vision. She gestured towards the guard, rolling her eyes. “Can you get this psychopathic freak out of here?” The guard nodded slightly, mouthing ‘sorry’ as he guided the president out. She gave him a thankful look, though she wasn’t sure if he saw it or not, because he had a tinted visor covering the top half of his face.
Once the door had shut once more, Infinity flopped down on her cot with a groan.
“For the love of everything,” she sighed, rolling over onto her back.
Another hour passed.
Shots fired somewhere above her head. She focused on cracks in the concrete ceiling, tracing continents and foreign countries in her mind. She closed her eyes, fury still roiling just below the surface.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
She opened her eyes.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Something was falling from the ceiling. She peered up at the cracks, reached her hand up to touch the strange liquid.
Her fingers came back red.
Blood.
Blood was dripping from the ceiling.
She recoiled, horrified. Shots had fired only a minute before. The blood couldn’t have soaked through the ceiling in that short amount of time. Someone above her head had died hours ago.
The metallic smell of blood flooded her nostrils. Her mind went into overdrive, trying to escape the raining blood. Soon, she was huddled beneath the cot, shaking with fear. “Dear God,” she prayed.
The door rattled and swung open. The same guard from before stormed in, head turning left and right, searching for her. She surveyed the guard from her hiding place. He was tall, well-built. She still couldn’t see his eyes, but the jawline… those lips…
The guard took off his helmet.
“Cameo!” She burst out of her hiding spot. “What are you doing here?” she whispered.
Cameo’s eyes were wild, rimmed with red; his hair was just as muddy and matted as that day on the rooftop.
“Infinity,” he breathed, afraid to come any closer. “I’m here… I’m here to get you out.”
“I’d rather take my chances with that moron than with this one,” she seethed, fists clenched.
“Fine.” He advanced a few steps, greeted by a punch to the chin. He took another step and grabbed her wrists. She retaliated by kicking him in the ribs. He forced her to sit down on the hard cot, blood still dripping all around them. She tried to bite him, but he held her just out of reach.
“LET GO OF ME!” she screamed, thrashing angrily in his grasp.
“INFINITY!” he yelled back.
“WHAT?”
“Stop moving. I’m here to get you out. They’re going to set fire to the White House, burn him out. I have to get you out.”
“I’d rather burn.”
“Well, I won’t let that happen.” Cameo swept her up into his arms and barreled out the door, a trail of bloody footprints left in his wake.340Please respect copyright.PENANAA7zsXl7S9S
