As Cameo limped over to the bus that Thomas was still locked in, he waved away the four guards standing in front of the doors. The troops looked at each other, then slowly walked back inside the hospital.
He shivered, wishing heโd thought to put on a coat. He was wearing one of Tannerโs shirts and his ratty old jeans, unable to find anything else on such short notice. Socks werenโt even on his radar. Neither were shoes.ย
Great. Now he was cold, limping, and he didnโt have shoes on. He looked homeless! That didnโt exactly project โleaderโ vibes.
He sighed and shook his head to clear it. What was he doing? He couldnโt kill someone! He carefully hobbled over to the bus and halfheartedly threw open the compartment door. He pulled his eyes up from the ground to see Thomas, trying to saw through the ropes binding his hands togetherโฆ with his teeth.
When Thomas saw Cameo, he laughed that horrible, gut-wrenching laugh.
โHey, there, General. Come to court-martial me?โ
โNo,โ Cameo gritted out. โAssaulting a superior officer in a time of war is punishable by death. No trial needed. Everybody saw it.โ
โSo you're going to kill me? You agreed to the fight!โ
โI agreed to fight with a sane man. You, Wilson, are anything but.โ Cameo stared Thomas deep in the eye. His gaze penetrated Thomasโs soul.
As Cameo stared at Thomas, he could feel a whitehot rage bubbling up in his muscles, his mind, his every fiber. Try as he might, he couldnโt fight it off. His shoulders tensed, his feet shifted. His body was getting ready to fight, and he knew it. The fury took hold of his mind and he screamed, loud enough that everyone inside the hospital could hear the lividity in his voice. He grabbed Thomas by the ankle and dragged him out of the bus. He tore through the bindings on Thomasโs wrists and ankles, just to make it a fairer fight.
But Thomas would never win. Cameoโs eyes blazed with cold, unbridled hatred for the monster that stood before him. He rushed at Thomas, throwing a volley of punches and kicks, the majority aimed at his head. Thomas fell to his knees. Cameo seized the boy by the shoulders, digging his fingernails into his skin. Cameo smiled. It felt so good to give the lunatic a taste of his own medicine.
Thomas cut a quick punch to Cameoโs chin. His lip cracked open again, blood trickling from it. He licked it away, focused on the psychopath in front of him. Suddenly, without warning, he felt his entire body be taken over by a sense of calm. The anger still controlled him, but the peace refined his movements. His attacks began to flow smoothly together, with raw emotion adding lethality.
Thomas was cowering on the ground, his body limp and unconscious. Cameo pulled his knife out from his pocket and flipped it open.
โYou snake,โ Cameo growled. The peace had gone. Fury alone dwelled in his consciousness. He smiled and licked the blood off his chin. Eyes still burning with bitterness, he plunged the knife deep into Thomasโs chest. The boy took one final gasp and, with a heart-twisting moan of agony, lay still. Cameo stood and walked away, his knife buried up to the hilt in Thomasโs body.
The four guards rushed back out, mouths hanging open. Cameo cocked a thumb over his shoulder.
โGet rid of it,โ he said hoarsely. โIf I see it again, or if any one of you mentions its name, I will not hesitate to skewer you as I did that monster.โ The guards saluted and rushed to handle the body.
Cameo took a shaky breath. Afraid he would hurt someone else, he turned and disappeared into the shadows, trying to get as far away from everything as he could.
โI wonโt hurt anyone else,โ he whispered to himself as he trekked into a stand of trees. โNot today.โโโโโโโโ547Please respect copyright.๏ผฐ๏ผฅ๏ผฎ๏ผก๏ผฎ๏ผก4MVJP86moq
