I feel eyes on me, I slowly open mine, blinking a few times, trying to get used to the light. I'm a bit confused about where I am, I see papers and I realize I fell asleep in the conference room. I sit up to see who is standing in the doorway, but for some reason I already know.
"Morning." Daniels's husky voice hitting me, and I rub my face. I must look horrible. Yesterday's makeup and unbrushed hair. I groan as I sit up completely, my head is pounding. When did I fall asleep? And what time is it now?
"Do you have the contract?" The contract? Is he actually asking me about Nick Cornwall's contract right now? He had to be kidding with me, right? I look at him, trying to read if he is joking, but his face is unreadable.
"No, you didn't say you needed it today" I answer, I can feel the irritation coming through in my voice.
"Nick will be here at 12. Have it done before that" he states before turning to walk away. I can feel my blood boiling. Probably a mix of not having enough sleep and his continuous demanding tone that pushes me over the edge.
"Are you freaking kidding me!" he stops and turns around and looks at me surprise on his face. I get up from my chair and he takes a step inside the conference room.
"I have been here all night, doing this! Because you put me on it alone, and I only have four days. You said nothing about the contract for Nick having to be done today" I can feel tears building, but I press them away. Its only because I'm tired, and I won't give him the satisfaction of seeing my tears.
"I told you about the contract first, that should be a hint that I wanted you to do it first" he answers, his voice calm, it is almost annoying how calm he is. He should at least feel a little bad about what he is doing.
"Bullshit!" I say grabbing a paper before walking over to him pressing it to his chest.
"And your welcome" I almost scream before walking out of the conference room and down the hallway to the bathroom. I had spent all night reading through the documents, and I have found something he could use. I had been so excited when I found it, and now he just made the entire thing taste sour. I walk by my office and grab my purse before walking over to the bathroom. I see a clock, its only five in the morning. Why the hell is here so early. I look myself in the bathroom mirror, I didn't look as bad as I thought. I dig through my purse and find a toothbrush and toothpaste before brushing my teeth. Glad I have a small vanity case with some necessities, like toothbrush- and paste, hairbrush, and makeup wipes. I also have a small makeup bag in the office with the basics. I freshen up fast before walking back out. I need coffee, I walk over to the kitchen and start making a can.
"This is pretty good" I hear Daniel's voice behind me again. I don't turn, afraid I'll get pissed again.
"I know" I answer my voice stern.
"Come by with the contract when you're done, ill proofread it myself." I still don't turn to look at him, but from knowing him I know he is gone.
"A thank you would be nice" I say to myself in a childish tone as I fill water into the coffee machine.
"This is your job you know." I feel shock rush through me like a lightning bolt, he was still standing there, I close my eyes in embarrassment. Turning around I look down at the floor, my awkwardness pretty easy to catch. He is leaning on the doorframe; he still doesn't seem faced by my outburst.
"I know it's my job"
"Do you?"
"Excuse me?"
"It's pretty easy" he says, and I'm stunned, what the hell is he talking about. He pushes himself off the doorframe before walking into the kitchen closing the space between us. I back up a little my back hitting the kitchen counter. He looks down at me, his eyes have gone dark, and I gulp. He takes another step closer to me, there are now just a few inches between us. I lick my lips quickly, not sure what is about to happen, but my imagination is playing ten different movies in my head at the same time. When he reaches out placing his hand on my hip fireworks starts shooting inside my stomach and my head goes blank, was he about to kiss me? Was this actually about to happen? Without warning he turns me around and I'm now facing away from him, what is going on? He has closed the gap between us, I can feel his hot chest against my back, his hand slowly going up the side of my body giving me goosebumps. I put my hands on the kitchen counter afraid my body will give in from his touch. As his hand reach my shoulder, he pushes my hair to the side, and I can feel his breath on my ear.
"You have to turn it on" he whispers, I'm trying to catch my breath at the same time figure out what he just told me. I need to turn what on? Him? The hand that is resting on my shoulder starts moving down my arm, and when he reaches my hand his leaves mine and goes over to the coffee machine, then he presses the on button. Then the space between us comes back, the heat from his body leaving me, and I shiver. What the hell just happened. I'm still standing with both hands plastered to the kitchen counter, trying to understand what he had just done. When I come to myself, I turn around, but he is gone. I'm still not sure what he had just done, he was messing with my head. I wait for the coffee to get ready, grab a cup and walk over to my office. I have to get the contract ready in 6 hours. Usually contracts go fast, but Daniel had requested a few special points. According to Daniel, and the internet Nick Cornwell though with his dick, not his head, and so he wants a clause about how long he must be under contract before he can switch attorneys.
