Generations of Nimps continued to pass. More and more White Nimps continued to decide to collect energy along with their Black Nimp companions. After hundreds of generations of Nimps passed ever since White Nimps were allowed to collect and generate energy, it became very rare for a White Nimp to receive criticism for not performing it's once "traditional" role of staying in one space at all times. The belief that only Black Nimps were capable of collecting energy had greatly faded.
But one belief had still not changed. Most, if not all Nimps continued to believe that White Nimps were much more gentile than any Black Nimp could ever be and they were believed to be the most capable of noticing if a light particle was in need of energy. Even with many White Nimps taking on the role of collecting energy, it remained common for White Nimps to prefer to stay alongside their light particles. But it was practically unheard of for a Black Nimp to keep watch of a light particle and never collect energy. As it was strongly believed that Black Nimps were not nearly as capable of taking watch of a light particle as a White Nimp. Many Nimps believed Black Nimps to be incapable of watching their light particles at all.
One Black Nimp heavily disagreed.
This Black Nimp was much calmer and toned down than other Black Nimps and had no interest in chasing after energy particles. But it really enjoyed watching the light and had a strong desire to stay by it's light particle at all times. It could stay and appreciate the beauty of the light that it had created rather than run along the planet looking for energy. If it was now acceptable for a White Nimp to collect energy, surely it was acceptable for a Black Nimp to keep a lookout on it's light particle.
But the Black Nimp's White Nimp companion found this preference to be quite amusing.
"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!" the White Nimp said with a laugh. "You can't stay alone with the light particle! Only a White Nimp has the watchful eye for that!"
The Black Nimp was quite shocked. "But aren't there White Nimps looking for energy with Black Nimps these days? What's wrong with a Black Nimp staying with it's light particle?"
"Because Black Nimps aren't capable of doing that!"
"Why? What does a White Nimp have that a Black Nimp doesn't have? Aren't we Nimps all the same? Are you also saying White Nimps are incapable of collecting energy? Even though they've been doing that for several generations?"
The White Nimp continued to laugh. "You Black Nimps weren't built with the watchfulness and gentleness needed to stay alongside it's light particle! Just accept that and go find us some energy!"
"But that's not my interest! Why should I be forced to do something that I have no interest in doing?"
"Because that's what a Black Nimp is meant to do!"
This Black Nimp was not alone it's preferences, but only by a small fraction. While there was a large number of White Nimps generations earlier who were not satisfied with their roles of watching light particles, much fewer Black Nimps were not satisfied with collecting energy. The numbers of Black Nimps who preferred to watch after light particles were so small that they were seen as jokes by most Nimps. Including other Black Nimps.
"A Black Nimp who wants to stay and watch the light?" one Black Nimp once remarked. "Are you sure you aren't really a White Nimp in disguise? You can't call yourself a Black Nimp if you would rather sit in one space than run around for energy!"
"Very true!" another Black Nimp remarked. "A Black Nimp that would rather stay and watch it's light particle all day is the most laughable thing I've ever heard! What an insult to all the other Black Nimps!"
With so many Nimps finding it amusing that a Black Nimp would want to perform a "White Nimp's role," the Black Nimps in these situations were very rarely ever taken seriously. Even as several more generations passed, these Black Nimps were seen as a joke.
The numbers of Black Nimps who had a preference for staying and watching the light did increase as the generations went by. And as time went on, White Nimps began to realize how their Black Nimp companions felt. It was no different than when White Nimps wanted to be allowed to collect energy several generations in the past. The Nimps only wanted to be treated the same.
White Nimps began allowing their Black Nimp companions to stay and watch the light particle while they ran off to go find energy. This new tradition became even more common as generations of Nimps continued to pass. While not as common as the number of White Nimps seen running and collecting energy, the numbers of Black Nimps staying and watching their light particles were much larger than before.
But even with this change in tradition, Black Nimps that chose not to collect energy remained heavily ridiculed. Black Nimps that chose to stay in one spot rather than run along the planet were seen as "pathetic" and "lazy" by so many Nimps. Very few White Nimps received criticism for choosing not to stay close to their light particles at all times, but large numbers of Black Nimps received criticism for wanting to stay close to their light particles at all times.
"I just want to stay and appreciate the light I've given to this planet," one Black Nimp stated as it stared at it's light particle and waited for it's White Nimp companion to return with energy. "How am I doing anything wrong? After all, our purpose is to provide light for this planet. And that's exactly what I have done."
In addition, it was still heavily believed that White Nimps were more capable of keeping watch of their light particles than Black Nimps. Many Nimps believed that White Nimps were more important to a light particle than a Black Nimp. That the Black Nimps were basically secondary when it came to keeping their light particles alive. That a light particle hardly even needed the Black Nimp at all.
This belief came into play drastically once the breaking of the Light Sources began.
