"Alison I-" She didn't finesh her sentance. I wouldn't know what to say either. If my best friend had taken a pill I dared her to and we went on a twenty four hour adventure, dodging death so many times only to be killed off by that pill, I wouldn't know what to say.
In fact I didn't know what to say as the person dying. I felt like I should say something that would give her closure, or maybe something brave, but nothing cams to mind. So I weakly smiled at her and reached out a hand.
She grasped it, a sob escaping her mouth as she apologized over and over again. I reached up, smoothing her hair and holding a finger to her lips, hoping she got the message.
There was no reason for her to apologies. She had done nothing wrong. I had taken the pill, and even if she had dared me to, I didn't have to do it. It wasn't her fault at all.
She sniffed slightly, looking at me with pleading eyes. "Please don't go. Your all I have left." I suddenly knew what to say. What would be brave. What would give her closure. What would mean more to her than anything else I could say in a life time.
But I could feel myself slipping. Feel myself getting closer and closer to death. I had to say it to her now or she would never head the words. She would never understand that it was okay. I had to say it now, or she would never hear my voice again.
"Don't forget to love Marian. Don't let what's happened in the past keep you from your future. Because of you I've lived, and smiled, and cried, and loved, and breathed more than I would have. Without you, I wouldn't have gone on this amazing adventure. I would have written about adventures and never lived one. Marian, because of that pill I've lived more than I would have if I was alive until I was eighty."
Tears streamed down her face as she gripped my hand. I knew the words had done what they were supposed to. She would be okay.
Suddenly my chest felt like it had exploded. I gasped for air and Marian looked at me in horror, backing away quickly. My body began shaking and everything hurt. Than it stopped.
I felt knumbness speed through my body, starting at my finger tips and working it's way through my arms. Them my legs, my torso, my chest. As it reached my head darkness played at my vision slowly closing in until it went black.
