Locked him out of the house again,

After he threw his bottle of rum at me,

Latched the door shut with disdain,

As the blood from my arm seeped.

Hatred grows in vain,

Nothing bothers he,

As I cry by the couch all night again,

While on the bench outside he is peacefully asleep.

The bottle won't leave his hand,

Like a poison seeping into his veins,

Day by day it killed him,

Till I can't even recognize my man.

In the middle of the night I open the door,

He is murmuring in his sleep,

The bottle close to his heart,

I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy,

As I watch him replace me.

I grab a blanket ,

And kiss him on his forearm,

I go back to the couch,

And leave the door open,

What did I ever do wrong?

To deserve this fate?

I can't understand me,

How my hate grows from my love,

All I want to do is run far away,

Yet be near him, feel his touch.

I remember those days,

He is a different person altogether,

He has the same body,

But a crushed soul and bad weather.

Why do I want him so much?

When he has no respect for me?

Why do I live wih him?

The old time's sake, you see.

Each night he comes home,

And pulls this black cloth over me,

I hate it and I love it,

It doesn't care,

It just keeps on suffocating me.
