As usual, I was "doing homework" on my iPad until all of a sudden a yell bellowed through the house all the way to my room and pounded my eardrums. What now! I thought jumping to my feet off of the bed I was sitting on. Sure enough in the kitchen my mum decided out of the blue to make sherbet and was arguing with my sister what flavour jelly crystals to use in it. "Just use the pineapple packet" I sighed before pulling up a chair to the bench. In went the bicarb soda and tartaric acid along with some other food items we barely used. Soon a white powder was in a bowl and my sisters were already digging into it eagerly. I tried some and it was frothy in my mouth and tasted very sweet, but it had a weird aftertaste. With more spoonfuls I grew to like it a lot and I decided to sneak some to school for the following day in a zip-lock bag. When I got to school I realised I had forgotten my keys and I must have left the packet on top of my locker in search for a key from a teacher. When I came back with a keychain in my hand it was gone, and I just thought it was rotten luck that I couldn't have it at my break instead of my vegemite sandwich. The following day came around and I completely forgot about it entirely and didn't even blink an eyelash to bother searching for it when I remembered in first period. "What the hell is this!"
"Give it to me!"
"Taste it!"
"Snort it!"
"Is it drugs?"
My head whipped around over my shoulder to see what the commotion was about and there in a classmate's hands was the packet of sherbet. Before I could even laugh that they thought it was cocaine the classmate had snorted it up her nostril.
"It stings! Don't do it! It stings so bad!" She exclaimed loudly to her peers sitting beside her.
I started to giggle and I clamped my hand over my mouth so she couldn't see my reaction to her stupidity. That would have stung and I agree with my peer on that one, but why would you snort a foreign substance into your body?! A boy started up telling the student to pass it to him because her wanted to try tasting it, and the student chucked it to him. That boy reached his hand into the bag and used his finger to grab some and put it in his mouth.
"It tastes like washing powder! Who would bring a packet of washing powder to school?!" He yelped and the class erupted into laughter. This was all happening while the teacher was oblivious, considering he would have been used to reckless and rowdy students misbehaving in his class. Twisting my face into my shoulder I laughed at the aftertaste he had experienced and I'm positive my face was red. A tap on my shoulder instantly flipped me back to reality of being in the middle of a maths class. Lifting my head I saw it was a girl I disliked a lot and I gave her a straight face.
"Are you alright?' She started with an odd expression on her face.
"Duh! What did you think I was doing? Crying?" I retorted in a confident tone before she went back to her study. Good, that shut her up I thought turning my head back to the back of the classroom.
"Give it back! I want to try it again!" Said the student to the boy.
"No, It's mine now!" He exclaimed and shoved it into his bag with a matter-off-fact attitude.
This was the most stupid thing I had done because I could have told them it was mine-- but then they would have thought I had brought washing powder to school, and that would have meant a disaster! I did not want to be teased or bugged because of it while the rumour spread around my year level, so I guess they deserved it? I honestly don't know!!! *sigh*
