Basically, you have to go through this whole ordeal. Stand in front of the congregation and repeat all of your lines, blah blah. Then you have to receive communion for the first time. This is where it took a turn for the worse.
See, I am a very shy person. I was so shy as a child I would hide under my bed if someone I was unfamiliar with came to our home, or if I was asked to go someplace that made me nervous, I.E. church.
So, I was terribly nervous. There were about 30 other children going through First Communion as well. We were standing there, in front of all of our friends and family. The priest is making his way towards me. He is about 5 children away. I'm getting more and more upset and nervous. I'm fiddling with my veil, twisting it my fingers, hyperventilation seems inevitable.
One more child to go until he gets to me. I am trying to swallow but my throat feels tight, I'm having a hard time trying to catch my breath. I feel sick to my stomach.
It's my turn. He motions to me to make the sign of the cross, which I just manage. Then he lifts my veil and goes to place the sacrament in my mouth. I open my mouth to receive it and I threw up all over Father Michaels.I start to cry and I'm still sick so it just makes me throw up more. It was awful. Kids are all going ewww and freaking out.
I can hear the parents all talking. My mother runs up to get me while the sisters all whisk Father to the back to clean up. Worst, most embarrassing day ever. Father Michaels let me stay in the back until everyone was done, then after everyone left he let me do mine again. Just me and my parents Sister Rachel and himself. I managed to not throw up again.
Needless to say, I didn't have a party. Too shy to. My sister and brothers still make fun of me for that.
