He couldn’t quite grasp who he was or what he was living for. It was all going to end so quickly and unexpectedly, what was he thinking? He tried to swallow back his tears but it was no use, they fell endlessly. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to live, it was just that he didn’t want to live this life. He loved the idea of life so much and it filled him in that moment. It’s always a tragedy to have to say goodbye to someone you’ve spent so much time with, he had that bittersweet feeling. He was saying goodbye to himself. Maybe he was just born in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps things could have ended differently if he thought it through more. However, it was too late. He could feel his eyes fill with tears once again as he mumbled, “I want to live.” In that moment he gathered all his strength to grab that hand and when he did he could feel himself breathe once again. He always felt like he was in a state where he couldn’t breathe, like he was constantly drowning underwater in a black sludge that prevented him from swimming up to catch his breath. Everything went dark yet the warmth in his hand never left. It wasn’t a saddening type of darkness though, it felt like nothing. It wasn’t sad or lonely, it was actually peaceful. That was until the bright flashes of light started to protrude. He wasn’t mad or distrubed by it but rather soothed. It eventually got too bright and he had no choice but to open his eyes. He turned over with a tranquil smile as his bright eyes lit up, he felt well rested and replenished. He was laying on puffs of wool that were elevated by a wooden structure, similar to a bed but not quite. The area was lit up by a fire and it appeared he was in a cave. He could hear the comforting sound of rain drops outside but he wasn’t cold because he had multiple layers of wool covering him. His tranquil smile then transformed into a bright one as he rubbed his eyes, he hadn’t even realized the situation he was in until he heard an unfamiliar voice call out to him. “Bout time you woke up, stranger! You hungry?”, he whipped around only to see a young man was standing behind him. He was extending his hand that held a bowl of steaming...stuff, it was strange food he had never seen. He hesitantly grabbed it and then froze in place. He desperately looked up at the young man with confusion as tears filled his eyes again. The hand that offered him food was the same hand with the same scar that reached out to him when he was dying. He recalled everything. All of it. He anxiously examined the person in front of him with a hopelessly confused expression. When he got a good look he realized the man was quite a charming fellow, he had long straight white hair. Half of it was tied into a bun and the other half was dangling loose. It complimented his sharp golden phoenix eyes, however, he still looked as sweet as can be as he smiled. The man looked concerned which made Knox realize how strange he was acting but it’s not like he could help it. This situation was a bit crazy after all. Knox couldn’t help but laugh, he knew he looked crazy but he didn’t care as he warmly gazed at the hand he held. “I’m Knox and I want you to know that I will be your most loyal companion.” Knox looked up to Azeil with a resolute expression. Azeil couldn’t help but think Knox was the strangest person he had ever met, it was the first time someone had spoken such bold and striking words to him. This story was only beginning between the two but it was clear that they stirred a strange feeling within one another. Knox felt utmost devotion towards Azeil while Azeil felt purely charmed. The two only had each other in this long lost forgotten world but one thing was for certain. Even if neither had realized it yet, they had fallen in love.
