Leaves crunched under Leafpaw's paws as her mentor went towards the NightClan border. NightClan cats rested during the day and were vigilant at night, which is quite unsettling for Leafpaw because her enemies were awake when she was asleep.
Witheredface stopped at a large tree that seemed taller than the Elder Tree. She had to extend her neck to see the canopies dancing red leaves.
A new scent wafted around her, making her pelt prickle.
Withereface seemed to notice and put his tail reassuringly on her should. "You're smelling NightClan. Take in this scent and memorize it." He directed.
Leafpaw opened her mouth and let the other Clan's scent bath her senses. She examined the other territory. The ground looked marshy and had pine nettles everywhere, making it look sort of messy. There wasn't a whole lot of undergrowth, but fat pine trees were weaving their way through the NightClan territory, providing at least someplace to hide. Tallgrass and flowers sprouted through the wet ground and large puddles laid here and there. Leafpaw thought it looked like a horrible place to live, and it smelled awful.
"Are you finished?" Her mentor was looking around as if he didn't want to be here any longer.
Leafpaw, puzzled, just nodded.
He led them back into their territory, which was lush and green, unlike NightClan, there was plenty of undergrowth to hide them and tall trees everywhere. Here and there, there were clearings of grass, but not many.
They passed some beautiful red flowers, they were funnel-shaped, somewhat two-lipped, and had a heavenly fragrance. The smell made her want to eat it, but she choose otherwise, not wanting to embarrass herself in front of her new mentor. A gorgeous butterfly fluttered past her nose. The insect had rich yellow-brown wings on the outside, of which had eye-shaped patterns, but when it opened its wings it was a vibrant blue. It landed on the flowers she was looking at and started to get some nectar. She fought back the urge to try and catch it and followed the golden-furred tom.
Withereface, once again, stopped, but this time there was a massive pool of water. The water was an elegant turquoise that sparkled when the light hit it just right. Water poured through the vine-covered trees on the other side. Fish swam delicately in the shimmering ripples. Flowers and life enveloped the enchanting site, making Leafpaw bubble with admiration.
"This is called the Evergreen Pool," her mentor informed her. He, himself, looked mesmerized by the magnificent sight. He shook his head, like trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts, and looked back at her. "Let's go to the PineClan border next."

It looked the same as NightClan's territory, but more life hung in the air. Bushes and undergrowth covered the ground, sprouting with fruit. It smelled better than NightClan.
Her mentor's tail went up. "Isn't much, is it? MountainClan territory will make you surprised, then."
MountainClan? Weren't mountains those tall stones? It didn't seem that interesting to Leafpaw because what's fascinating about a bunch of rock?67Please respect copyright.PENANA9TM8oNrZIu

She thought otherwise when she got to the border. It wasn't just a pile of rocks. There were trees, grass, and just life everywhere. Leafpaw even though she could hear either a waterfall or a river nearby. MountainClan seemed awesome. It didn't even smell that bad, or was that because she wanted everything about this place to be perfect? She did notice a few rocks here and there and a few hunting trails.
She noticed a few birds chirping and pecking and seeds on the ground. Her pelt prickled. Her instinct was kicking in, but she shoved it away. It was against what she was taught to catch prey on other Clans' territory.
Withereface purred, "When I first saw MountainClan's territory, I thought it looked pretty perfect too." His eyes darkened. "But it isn't so pretty when there are avalanches, and while winter- well, you don't want to know how dangerous it can get."
Leafpaw's ears twitched when she heard paws steps on the other side of the border. She noticed Withereface stiffen, which baffled her. Weren't the other Clans friendly?
Four cats stepped out into view, making the birds fly away. An orange tom was in the lead, his tail lashing and a dark look on his face. On the other paw, what seemed to be an apprentice, who was a tortoiseshell and white she-cat, was bouncing around a brown tom. The small gray tom, taking the rear, seemed to notice them and muttered something she couldn't catch.
The orange tom spun around, hissing at the tortoiseshell, "If you don't shut up, I'll claw your ears off!"
The apprentice stopped and ducked away from him with an innocent look. "Sorry, Orangestep."
The brown tom peered at them with a friendly look and bounded over to the border, his tail curled into the air. "Hello, Witheredface." He looked Leafpaw up and down. "Who is this pretty she-cat you have here?"
Withereface purred, which Leafpaw could tell it was forced. "Greetings, Mousetail. This my apprentice, Leafpaw."
Mousetail flicked his snout towards the irritating apprentice. "That's Flowerpaw, my apprentice. She can be a huge bother sometimes." He huffed with an amused look smeared across his face.
Orangestep trotted over to him, tail lashing. "I swear, that apprentice of yours will get a few scratches if she acts like that any longer."
Mousetail gave a purr of entertainment and flicked his tail. "I'm sure she will if you're around while she's like this."
Witheredface dipped his head. "We should get going. It was nice talking to you, Mousetail." He turned and started to pad away.
Leafpaw stumbled after him. "Wow!" She exclaimed. "They were a lot different than I expected."
Her mentor shrugged. "Just wait until battle. They're good fighters and are highly manipulative." He glimpsed behind them one last time and hurried up a tiny bit. "We should get back to camp."

Back at camp, Birchpaw and Patchpaw were doing the elders' den. She trotted over to them. "Where is everyone else?"
"Hunting," Patchpaw replied without looking up.
Birchpaw glimpsed at her. "Where have you been?"
"Witheredface took me out to see the territory." She explained, narrowing her eyes at him.
Whiskerfur, Russesttail, and Fawnbreeze laid on the Sun Rocks that was close to Elder Tree. Sunfur stared at the fresh-kill pile, looking like he was questioning himself to take some or not. There was only one mouse and two voles. Now that Leafpaw thought about it, everyone in her Clan seemed pretty thin, a little too thin. The warriors' den rustled, and Acornsahde padded out, then stretched in back in an arch, yawning.
Leafpaw glanced back at Birchpaw and Patchpaw. "Do you want any help?"

When they finished the elders' den, Birchpaw slumped down with an exaggerated sigh of relief. "Finally! That took moons!"
Patchpaw grunted in agreement. "But at least we did something helpful."
Leafpaw felt peaceful. The air was cool. There was a breeze, but it was hardly noticeable, making her fizz with happiness. It was so calm. The Elder Tree's leaves rustled as a few birds flew out, singing their heavenly music. Vines weaved up the ancient tree, making it look like it had a green coat of fur.
Birchpaw purred. "The other Clans must wish they had this as their territory."
"Are you sure? Didn't they choose their territories when they first came here?" Patchpaw shot back.
The thorn barrier rustled and Rosepaw came bouncing in. A petite brown mouse hung in her grip. "I caught something!" She put her catch on the fresh-kill pile with glee.
Leafpaw rolled her eyes. Rosepaw has been an apprentice for about two moons, and she still behaved like a kit. But Leafpaw couldn't say much about that because she was just made one.
A ruffled Thronpaw bounded over to her with a grim expression.
"What happened?" Patchpaw asked before she could even open her mouth to ask the same thing.
"It doesn't matter." He growled, turned around, then padded away, lashing his tail.
Leafpaw tilted her head, puzzled. "What was that all about?"
"Maybe he missed a mouse or something?" Birchpaw shrugged.
"He got stuck in a bush." A voice said behind them.
Leafpaw jumped, startled, and spun around. Leopardpaw was staring at them, her whiskers twitching. "It was fun seeing him struggle."
Bluepaw came stomping over. "How could you do something that?" She glared at Leapordpaw like she wanted to rip her heart out and shove it down her throat. "You shoved him into a thorn bush!"
The golden-furred apprentice gave Bluepaw an innocent look, "I didn't shove him, I just forced him into the throne bush."
Bluepaw snorted. "Yeah, like that's any better."
"Oh, stop mooning over him!"
"Shut up! I'm not mooning over him!"
"Yes, you are!"
"Not!"
"Are!"
Leafpaw wanted to rip her ears off. "Um... Maybe you could stop fighting?" She suggested as they turned to her, murderous looks on their faces.
Birchpaw let out a huff. "Mooning?" He stared at Bluepaw with a crusty look. "Thronpaw?"
The gray apprentice looked like she wanted to hide in her fur and escape this awkward involvement.
Leafpaw's ear twitched as she heard quick, fearful paws steps coming towards camp.
Pinefur, Blacktail, and Thistlefur came exploding into the clearing. They had expressions of horror soiled across their faces.
"There's a-" Blacktail gasped for air. "Fire!"
