1914年的夏天，隨著在塞爾維亞所冒起的星星之火，本已暗中各懷盤算，磨拳擦掌的歐洲列強之間再也按捺不住，一場人類所面臨前所未有的大戰之火，就此在歐洲大陸中蔓延開去。

作為列強之一的法國亦不例外，尤其全國得知德國正準備再度西侵，上下群情洶湧。政府徵召了全國的男人投身軍旅，不但誓要保衛祖國，更要洗脫44年前的普法戰爭之恥，奪回阿爾薩斯和洛林。

拜奧列多，一個沉默寡言的「劍士之子」，亦跟其他法蘭西男兒一樣，被徵召到軍隊當中。

這殘酷的戰爭，卻使孤身一人的他認識到朋友 ; 他非凡的武藝，卻在機槍炮火面前微不足道。

一名錯生於時代的少年和劍士，就這樣踏上了他的軍旅......
