Narrator: This part of the story follows 13 year old Katana, living with her father, named Tsurugi, a swordsman. In this story we shall see Katana's life and struggles that lead to her encounter with Aphrodite.

Tsurugi and Katana, both holding wooden sword's in front of them, stand face to face. Katana charges at Tsurugi, lifting her wooden sword over her head. Katana brings the sword down, attempting to hit Tsurugi. Tsurugi blocks the strike with his own wooden sword, then swings his sword, knocking Katana's out of her hands. Katana watches her sword fly away, before it hits the ground. Tsurugi presses his sword to Katana's chest and pushes, knocking her onto her back. Tsurugi places the tip of his sword to Katana's neck. Katana lets out a sigh.
Tsurugi: You got distracted.
Tsurugi holds out his hand to his daughter. Katana takes her father's hand.
Katana: Without my sword, it is not like I could have done anything.
Tsurugi pulls his daughter to her feet.
Tsurugi: Even without your sword, you still could have disarmed me.
Katana: I do not see how. Without a weapon, I am at a disadvantage.
Tsurugi: Really, that's what you think?
Tsurugi throws his sword off to the side.
Tsurugi: Fine then pick up your sword, and come at me with all you got.
Katana retrieves her sword, and holds it out in front of her.
Katana: (Smirking) This will be easy.
Katana charges at Tsurugi, lifts the wooden sword over her head, and attempts to strike her father. As Katana swings the sword down, Tsurugi, moves to the left, avoiding the attack. Katana, quickly turns and swings her sword horizontally at her father. Tsurugi simply steps back, avoiding his daughters strike. Katana, getting frustrated, pulls the sword back to her side, and charged thrusting the wooden sword at her father. Once again Tsurugi steps to the side, dodging his daughter's strike, he then grabs her arm with one hand, and pulls her forward, placing his foot in front of hers, causing her to trip and fall face first on the ground.
Katana gets up and turns and looks at her father with an annoyed expression on her face. Tsurugi lets out a sign.
Tsurugi: You are talented, but just because you are the best of your age, does not mean that you have learned everything. You still have much more to learn. Don't just charge at your opponent, take time to look around, observe. Look for a weakness. If you notice your opponent favors their right side, attack from the left.
Katana: Would that not be dishonorable?
Tsurugi: Well, when it comes to battle, your objective is to win. I'm not saying to throw dirt in their eyes, or poison them. A skilled swordsman knows their own weakness and how to protect it. What is your weakness?
Katana: My weakness?... It's that I'm a woman, right? I'm physically weaker.
Tsurugi busts out laughing.
Tsurugi: Where did you get that idea? If that was the case I wouldn't be training you. There are plenty of powerful swordswomen, the most powerful are known as the Valkyrie. Most of them could beat even the strongest swordsman. No, your weakness is your recklessness. Take time to slow down, visualize the fight. Learn to do that, and you'll beat me. Maybe you can even become one of the Valkyrie.
Tsurugi places his hand on Katana's head.
Tsurugi: So, you think you can do that?
Katana: Yes, father. I will become better then you, and I will make you proud.
Tsurugi: That's my girl.
End Scene.
Start Scene. A few weeks later, Katana and Tsurugi, having dinner at a restaurant. A scream is heard from outside. Katana and Tsurugi quickly get to their feet, and run outside. Outside on the ground lays a dead man, with a bleeding gash on his chest. Sasori stands in front of the dead man.

Sasori holds in his left hand, a sword with a curved blade, pointing down by his side, with dripping blood forming a red puddle at the man's foot.
Sasori: Weak! Is there no one in this village worth fighting!
Sasori looks around the town, people standing around him, fear on their face. Sasori's eyes stop on Tsurugi, noticing his sword by his side, Sasori smirks, and points his sword at Tsurugi.
Sasori: You! You look like a strong fighter! Come, let's fight!
Tsurugi steps forward toward Sasori, his hand resting on his sword. Sasori's smirk turns into a smile.
Sasori: My name is Sasori, remember it, for it is the name of your killer.
Tsurugi: I am Tsurugi Senshi.
Katana stands at the entrance to the restaurant and watches as Tsurugi grabs the handle of his sword. Then in a blur Tsurugi and Sasori, are clashing swords.
Narrator: The sound of steel on steel, let youung Katana know the two men had begun their fight, their movments to fast for her to be able to see. This continued for about ten minutes, with neither man cutting the other. Soon the smell of blood filled Katana's nose, someone had been cut, maybe both, but they were moving too fast for her to tell which one. After another minute, the fighting slowed before coming to a stop.
Both men, Tsurugi and Sasori, now have bleeding cuts on their bodies, sweat on their brows, and are both breathing heavily. Sasori has a wide smile on his face, and a crazed look in his eye.
Sasori: You've impressed me, but, you are still dead.
Tsurugi: Our fight is not over yet.
Tsurugi's breath becoming heavier, and his body starts to shake.
Sasori: It is, and I've won.
Sasori rests his sword on his shoulder. With a smile Sasori turns and walks away, as Tsurugi fell to his knees, coughing.
Katana: Father!
Katana runs to Tsurugi, as he collapses face down on the ground, his breath stops.
Narrator: That day Katana's life as she knew it had changed. It was the start to her path that would take her to her encounter with Aphrodite.
End Scene.
Start Scene. Katana stands looking at the body of her father, laying covered in a white sheet, a short old man, the coroner, stands near by.
Coroner: He did not die from blood loss, but by poison.
Katana: Poison? That man's blade, he had it covered in poison?
Coroner: That's what it seems.
Katana: He was not looking for a challenging fight.
Katana balled her fists, and began to shake with rage.
Katana: He just wanted to kill. He is nothing but a coward and a murder. A man like that has no right to continue living. I will end his life.

Narrator: Tsurugi was laid to rest, many people of the town, who had witnessed the fight, were there to pay their respects. Among them, was an elder man named Ōdachi, and he was her father's teacher.

Katana walks up to Ōdachi, and bows in front of him. Ōdachi looks at her through his sad, tired eyes.
Ōdachi: You are Tsurugi's child, am I correct?
Katana: Yes, sir.
Katana straightens herself up.
Katana: I need you to teach me, to be a better swordsman, better than my father was.
Ōdachi: You want revenge, on the man that killed him, is that correct?
Katana: Yes, sir.
Ōdachi: (Calm) Death is part of the life of a swordsman. Your father knew there was a chance he would die in that fight. If you go after this man with the sole intent of killing him, just to avenge your father, you are no better then him. Revenge is not the path your father would want you to follow.
Katana: But my father did not die from a fair fight! He was poisoned, that man who killed him has no right to call himself a swordsman! I can not allow him to continue to slaughter others for the pleasure of it!
Ōdachi: Your desire for his death, is being influenced by your own emotions, your pain and grief. You do not wish to save others from him, your wish is a selfish one. Do you understand that?
Katana: (Bowing) Yes, I do. Will you please teach me? I won't stop asking until you do.
Ōdachi: (Sigh) Alright, of that is what you want...
Ōdachi: (Thinking) Tsurugi, I promise I will do what I can to steer your daughter back onto the path away from revenge.

Narrator: Over the next five years, Katana trained under Ōdachi, preparing for the day she would encounter, the man named Sasori. At the age of 18, Katana having greatly improved prepared to set off.

Katana stood at the edge of her village, a small bag hanging off her shoulder. Ōdachi walks up behind her.
Ōdachi: You still plan on searching for that man?
Katana: Yes, sir.
Ōdachi: I taught you in hopes that you would have given up this revenge quest, but it looks like I failed. Revenge will not fill the void, and I worry if you follow this path, it will end in your death, as well.
Katana: Then I will die.
Katana walks forward.
Katana: But only after, he is dead.
Ōdachi stands and watches as Katana leaves.
Ōdachi: (Sigh) I am sorry Tsurugi, I was not able to talk her out of this. Please forgive me...

Start Scene.
Narrator: For the next seven years, Katana searched for Sasori, following the trail of death he had left behind.
Katana enters a village, and notices the body of a man laying in the streets, fresh cuts still covered in wet blood, surrounded by people. Katana walks up to a woman.
Katana: The man who killed him, did he have white hair and a scorpion tattoo on his chest?
Woman: Yes. Why, do you know him?
Katana: I am looking for him. Where did he go?
Woman: He went to the woods.
The woman points to the woods near the edge of the town.
Woman: But I advise you to not go after him, if you do he will kill you.
Katana: Not if I kill him first.
Katana heads in the direction of the woods.
After walking in the woods for an hour, Katana finds Sasori, asleep against a tree, his still bloody sword laying by his side. Katana picks up a rock from the ground, and throws it at him. The rock hits Sasori in the head, waking him up. Sasori opens his eyes and looks around, his gaze landing on Katana, he smiles.
Sasori: Well, hello there. To what do I owe this visit of such a beautiful lady.
Katana: Twelve years ago, you killed my father.
Katana pulls her sword out of its sheath, and points it at Sasori.
Katana: And now I'm going to kill you, take up your sword!
Sasori: Really, I killed your old man?
Sasori, grabs his sword, and stands up.
Sasori: I've killed so many men, who was he?
Katana: (Angry) His name was Tsurugi Senshi!
Sasori: (laughing) Oh yeah, I remember him. He was quite the fighter. You're his daughter?
Sasori raises his sword pointing it at Katana, a wide grin on his face.
Sasori: Are you as good has he was?
Katana: I am better then he was.
Katana holds her sword out in front of her.
With a laugh Sasori charges at her and swings his sword, Katana easily blocked it. With great speed the two trade blows, both blocking the others strikes, each as fast as the other. Katana tries to keep from getting hit by Sasori's sword, watching where it would strike next and focusing on blocking it. The two fought for hours, neither landing a single hit, finally throwing caution to the wind, Katana allows Sasori's sword to pierce her side, surprising Sasori. Ignoring her pain, Katana, uses her opponents shock to her advantage and slashes his neck with her sword, his blood splashing on her face. Sasori let go of his sword, and fell back onto the ground, dead.
Katana, breathing heavily, removes Sasori's sword from her side, and looks at her fathers killer dead on the ground in front of her. Tear's fall from her eyes, her vision began to get blurry, and she began to lose her balance, forcing her to lean on a nearby tree. Leaning her back on the tree, she slides down, sitting with her back against the tree, closing her eyes.
Katana: (whispering) Father, I am sorry....
End Scene.
Start Scene. Katana's eyes shoot open
Katana: (Thinking) I am alive, how am I alive?
Aphrodite kneels in front of her, looking at her.

Katana: Who are you? Did you save me?
Aphrodite: Yep, I'm Aphrodite. I arrived right after your fight with that scary looking guy.
Looking to her right, Katana sees Sasori still laying on the ground dead. Aphrodite follows Katana's gaze.
Aphrodite: I couldn't save him, but considering you killed him I guess you wouldn't want him alive.
Katana: Why did you save me? I was supposed to die... I deserve to die.
Aphrodite: Huh, why?
Aphrodite cocks her head in confusion.
Katana: As a swordswoman I should not have killed for revenge. I let my father down, I should die a punishment.
Aphrodite: (Standing up) That's stupid. Just cause you did something your dad wouldn't like doesn't mean you need to die.
Katana: That's not what I mean... I...
Aphrodite: Now that you don't need to kill this guy anymore, you can do whatever you want. It doesn't matter what your dad want's you to do, you need to live so you can find your own adventure.
Katana: My adventure?
Aphrodite: Yeah, I'm here to look for something, and I won't go home til I find it!
Katana: What are you looking for?
Aphrodite: I... I don't know. Huh, that's weird.
Katana: You can not remember?
Aphrodite: No... But it doesn't matter, I'll know it when I find it!
Narrator: It was at that moment Katana, saw Aphrodite's beauty, and felt in her heart the desire to be with her and follow her. Katana feels her strength return to her. She has now made up her mind.
Katana looks at Aphrodite, and stands up.
Katana: Let me help you, as thanks for helping me.
Aphrodite: (Surprised) Really? Well, it would be nice to have some company, sure!
Katana: (Bowing) Thank you. My name is Katana.
Aphrodite: Well, Katana, it's nice to meet you..
Katana straightens back up.
Aphrodite: Let's go, toward adventure!
Katana: (Blushing) Yes, my love... Where ever you go, I will be there.
Aphrodite looks at Katana with a confused look on her face.

Character notes.
When I came up with the first group of girls for this story, I wanted to have one that did not have any powers. Since I find girls with swords, hot, I thought it would be cool to have one in this story.
Katana is inspired by many sword wielding characters in anime, specifically, Zoro from One Piece, and Erza from Fairy Tail, two of my favorite anime.
I had trouble coming up with a backstory for her, so I went with this generic revenge plot, just to get something out so I could move forward.
Katana's quirk is to be the serious one of the cast, but when Aphrodite is involved she acts like Sanji from One Piece, and Juvia from Fairy Tail. I also thought it would be funny to have her offer to execute anyone, that annoys Aphrodite, in an comedically serious tone.
Overall I like Katana and hope those reading do to, hopefully I write her the way I want to.
Still not in love with this chapter, but I do like it better now, but I wouldn't min re-writing it again.
