2300年，末世後的世界，人類生存區域被瓜分為54個區域，在這裡眾人相信著一個信仰，名叫，圉。一個以金魚當作神明和寄託希望的信仰。

每一個區域裡的孤兒院，專門培養著兒童，以便分派到四大場所，礦場，軍營，實驗室，和拉斯爾卡戰區，一個54區外的戰區。

西爾斯‧夏佐‧伊里亞德，一個在拉斯爾卡戰區撿到的孤兒，不曾記得自己的過往，不曾記得自己的一切，只記得自己的名字，西爾斯‧夏佐，被軍隊帶進了54區內最荒涼的孤兒院。在那他遇見了和自己來自相同地區的少年，米契爾‧林恩，兩人相同的遺忘自己過往的一切，生活在54區的孤兒院裡。直到有一天……西爾斯夢見了從前和未來。
