在很久之前，人界和靈界有著一個可以互相往來的通道，許多擁有好奇心的靈會來人界學習一些知識，或者幻化為人型與人進行交流，但也有想要吞噬人類的靈，為了抑止這些事件發生，因此有了馭靈師這個職業，馭靈師就有如字面上的意思一樣<駕馭靈的術師>，馭靈師在至今1000-50年前為全盛時期，其中最代表性的馭靈師莫過於是"九武遙光"，被稱為世上最偉大的馭靈師的他，在12歲時就已經擁有自己的守護靈，並熟練專業馭靈師的技能-迴光，而馭靈師這個職業在現代已經鮮少人知曉，原因是九武遙光30年前，在現今東京地區進行封印兩界通道的術式，雖然成功封印，卻引發了副作用-靈災造成大半部的東京傷亡慘重，在這之後，存活的馭靈師們也隱姓埋名，就這樣大眾也就逐漸淡忘了馭靈師的存在，但在一位身世不平凡的少年，不經意的將通道再次打開，馭靈師神祕的面貌再次呈現在世人面前，這就是描述一位少年-九武星辰故事的"馭靈師物語"
