Chapter 1
Escaped -
My head start isn’t enough, I tell myself achingly. I hear It, no, I hear them panting close behind me. The smell of the burning forest makes me cough. My legs ache in frustration. Out of nowhere, I feel unimaginable pain in my knee. I fall to the ground with a sound coming out of me, but doesn’t seem a part of me. As soon as I land I roll to my left as my leg screams in pain. I pick up a rock and hit the beast in the head. It vanishes through the wood.
The trees are on fire, falling one by one. I get up with a groan. As I limp, My beaten knee aches in agony. Many noises are going on, but all I catch is my heartbeat. As I slowly get out of the woods I notice it's daytime. The ash, gas, and fog from the forest fire made the world dark. I don't notice how much pain I am in until I stop and my adrenaline leaves my bloodstream. I fell on the side of the road. I decide to scream just because it seems like I should do so. I hear gunshots in the woods and I know it's time to leave. I notice I still have the chain marks on my arm and legs.
I’m wearing a yellow shirt I stole from a thrift shop. And sweatpants that I wore before, they took me. I take off the book bag that I had on, open it and take out a bottle of water. I pour it on my knee and my pain vanishes.
“Good as new,” I say to know one in particular.
I get up and start walking down the street. I hear wheels so I turn around cautiously, the car is 12 feet away from me. I start running down the street toward the car. 12 feet, 9 feet, 5 feet,2 feet, and I jump, flinging my body through the air I pull my body in and I flip over the vehicle I land behind the large truck-like vehicle. I hear it stop as I land. Three figures come out of the vehicle holding some sort of gun. I smile at them sarcastically.
One of the three men says,” get in the truck.”
I slowly but bravely say,” no,sorry.”
I run toward the edge of the rail, on the street, and pull myself over the ledge. The wind washed over me. I closed my eyes and I felt like I was flying. Noticing it was going to be a huge fall. I pull my body tightly together. The impact of the cold water shocked me for a moment. Then the whole world turns blue.
Chapter 2
Promise-
As I hit the base of the river I bend my knee and launch myself about 3 feet out of the water. I steer myself toward the ground, under the bridge. I land with great balance. I bend my knees and jump with tremendous force
and grab the railing of the bridge above me. While I pull myself up I notice that I left my bag here when I jumped.
I instantly open it up, there is a water bottle,
a notebook and a long staff made up of gold and steel. The staff contracts, it is the size of a pin at the moment but I could easily make it 9 times longer. I pick up my bag and I start to run across the street at a good speed, about 20 miles per hour.
As the wind pulls my hair back I smile, relieved to finally be free. I reach a small town, it looks broken down and destroyed. There is a market on the right side of a building. I approach the market.
“Hello,” I say.
“Hello,” the old man says roughly. “Can I have 2 feijoas please?” I ask.
The man smiles at me and replies,” Of course, but haven’t I seen you before?”
I hesitate before answering, “No, why?”
“I don't know… You look familiar,” He says while handing me the fruits.
I smile and add, ”Sorry but I'm new here.”
I start to walk away, “Thanks for the fruits.”
I walk down the street paying attention to everything around me. I quickly start to notice that there are a group of teens, around my age, wearing black police-like vests and holding different varieties of weapons. They slowly come together behind me.
I start to sweat, they start to follow me, I wipe my sweat off. They get faster, I get faster, they start to jog, I start to jog. They follow me out of the town. I start to run, they start to run. The landscape changed dramatically. I see a large city that seems to just have been built. I run as fast as possible toward the huge buildings. I can hear footsteps behind me. As I enter the City I see hundreds of hundreds of people walking and running into buildings and cars all around. Lose them I tell myself… lose them!
I run into a blue hotel that seems to be the largest building in the city.
As I run in I hear a man yell, ”You have to sign in.”
I couldn’t hear him say anything after that, because I was already halfway up the stairs. I run into a random room and slam the door shut. As soon as I stopped everything hit me at once. Why were they chasing me? Where am I? And my gosh I'm exhausted.
I hear them try the doorknob, so I press on the door with more force. I listen to them give up and walk down the step. I can finally breathe again. While I get up I hear the door to the bathroom open. My instinct makes me dive behind the bed out of view.
“Who's there,” a girl says terrified.
I slowly get up and put my hands in the air. I see a young tall mid-size girl with blue eyes, lightly freckled chicks, and dark brown hair.
“I was chased in here,” I say.
“Oh, okay,” she says confused, ”umm, you can put your hands down now.”
I laugh and put my hands down.
“Yes, of course, sorry,” I say embarrassed.
“So,” she says with a weak smile
“I should go,” I say casually.
”Ya,” she says, sounding relieved.
“Can I borrow your mirror?” I
say.
“Sure,” she says looking bewildered.
I need to look at myself, I haven't seen myself in a while.
I go to the mirror and I see a tall boy with dark blue eyes and dark brown hair wearing a yellow shirt.
I sigh as I say, ”thank you”, softly.
She smiles and opens the doors for me. As soon as I leave, My body gets tense and focused. I quietly go down the stairs. I see the man who called out sign in. He looks so confused to the point of looking petrified. I lightly smile at him as I leave the hotel. I looked around suspiciously, looking for something that looked out of place.
Though I think everything is out of place. I go down an alley, between two buildings and I hear a kid scream,” Help!” I pick up my pace, I turn to the right, and then I see two boys, my age, beating on a younger boy.
I demandingly say,” Hey!”
The skinnier boy of the two turns around and snarls,” This is not any of your...your business.” My body tenses. “Ok,” I say casually. I walk back to the street and open my bag, I slowly take out my staff and zip up my bag. I walk back to the fight.
“Let go of him,” I say calmly.
This time the larger boy turns around and says coldly,
”I thought we told you it's not your business!”
Then he starts running at me.
”I thought I told you to leave him alone,” I say naturally.
I spring out my staff and spin it with my hand. Bringing a gush of wind toward the large kid. He flys backward grunting. I direct the blow toward the skinner kid. He goes across the alley. The larger boy gets up and looks at the boy and says,
”this isn't over.” He runs off through the buildings.
“Are you ok,” I say with sympathy.
The young kid gets up, holding his side. “Thank you,” he says while crying.
He picks up a book and starts walking toward me. He hands me the book and says,
”Promise me you will protect this.”
I grab the book and say slowly,
”sure kid.” The boy smiles and falls over.
I don't know what to do.
“Kid,” I say while my eyes become glassy.
“Kid!”I scream with confusion.
The same girl I saw in the hotel comes into the alley.
”Is there a problem,” she says confused.
I lift the boy and a scream that rattles my eardrums comes out of her.
Next day -
Everything was going so fast, I remember seeing a vehicle with lights and a noise that I oddly remember coming out of it. After everything yesterday, I have a room in the hotel for free. I hear someone knocking at my door so I open the door. The same girl from yesterday has a tray in her hand full of food. She hands it to me slowly.
“How was your sleep,” she says while sniffing.
She looks like all her energy has been sucked out of her.
I quickly replied, ”good.”
She slightly smiles which seems to be forced.
“I'm going to… the hospital,” she says calmly.
“I'm going to give you my phone numbers if you have problems with something,” she says casually.
“Make yourself comfortable,” she says swiftly as she closes the door.
I get off my bed and stretch. I have been wearing the same clothes as yesterday. I took a shower and put on the clothes I was handed by the hotel. Navy jeans and a blue T-shirt. I guess blue is their color. I check my bag for the book I need toprotect.
It is still there, with all its mystery. I close the bag. As I walk down the hall I find a lounge, I walk into the lounge carefully. The lounge has blue and gold walls, lots of chairs and seats. It also has big tile floors with black diamonds on them and large windows on the right wall.
“Hello,” a man says sitting in the bar.
“Hey,” I say evidently.
“Would you like something,” the man says with a smile.
No thank you,” I respond quickly.
I take a seat near the windows. There are a lot of people rushing around like the first time I entered the city. It's a beautiful place with lots of lights. I hear a loud noise come from the door of the lunge. I swiftly turn around and I see 5 teens that look about 16. There are 2 boys and 3 girls.
“Hey, can we have six bottles of beer,” a boy calls out.
“Of course,” the man answers startled.
The group of kids sits behind my seat.
“Hey kid.” a girl shouts behind me
I turn around cautiously.
“Yes,” I say surprised.
“I haven't seen you around here before,” she says with a heavy smile,” where did you come from.”
“I umm… came from the west,” I say slowly
“Ya,” she says with a smirk.
The other kids start to laugh.
“Well,” she says while her smile grows.
“Leave him alone, Jane,” one of the boys says in his laughter.
“Ya, leave him alone,” A girl agrees in a mocking tone. “We have to go anyway.”
“Yup,” they all say casually.
They all get up chuckling. They all leave but the girl who said they had to go, comes up to me. I stand up in response.
“Hey,” she says with a light smile. Before I could respond, she said, holding her smile,” my name Is Kristyn.”
“What's yours?” she asks casually like she has asked it a thousand times. That's when it hits me what is my name?
“I don't know,” I replied embarrassed.
“Ok,” she says confused. “
I will call you, Johna,” she says with a grin.
“Umm.. ok,” I say with a light smile.
“See you around Johna,” she says while leaving the lounge.
“See you,” I reply. As I walk back to my room I meet the girl that brought me food this morning.
“Hey,” I say with a light smile.
“Hey…” she pauses, “Johna,” I say quickly.
“Yes of course, sorry I have been so busy lately to tell you my name and to get to know you,” she says.
“No problem,” I utter drowsily.
“My name is Amelia,” She says with a tired laugh.
“Did my brother hand you any sort of book,” she says.
“He did,” I say while walking to my room.
Chapter 3
Story-
She grabs the book with her hands shaking. She gives a small smile when she notices me looking at her. She Slowly sits on the bed with the book shaking in her hands.
I sit down beside her with a slight smile. She opens the book slowly like something might jump out at her.
She clears her throat,” This first page is showing A symbol of a different house of power that used to rule this land until they broke up and the world divided.” She paused for a second, letting me soak in this information.
“The houses that used to rule this world were called the dragons, the Phoenix, and Pegases. In each of these houses they were young people being trained depending on where their house was, what they were good at and were they were born to do. "The world is being torn,"she says with a soft voice.
The hairs in my ear lift, something is coming from the outside, something powerful, I get up. My whole body gets tense. I take out my staff. All of a sudden the wall of the room explodes. The whole room flips. I Lose balance off the ground. I hit something hard but I can barely feel it through my adrenaline. My vision goes blurry. I then see a large figure with blue glowing around it. All of sudden my eyes shut.
