【約十八29】「彼拉多就出來，到他們那裏，說：『你們告這人是為甚麼事呢？』」

﹝背景註解﹞『彼拉多』是羅馬帝國派駐猶太地的第五任巡撫，任期從主後廿六至卅六年。他通常駐鎮在該撒利亞，但逾越節期間則暫移駐耶路撒冷，防備隨時可能發生的騷動或暴亂事件。根據猶太歷史家約瑟夫的描繪，彼拉多是一個個性倔強且冷酷無情的人。
