武林爭鬥，無日無休。幾年前，本來寂寂無名的天仙派平地一聲雷突然崛起，並不斷擴張勢力。以雷廷萬鈞之勢，在短短三年間，就把長江以北大大小小過千門派全部吞併。不論男女，順從者都要在身上烙上天仙派門徒的記號；反抗者一律處死。雖然北方武林人士試圖反抗，可惜太遲。天仙派已經落地生根，為時己晚，難成氣候。 不甘受制的南方武林人士，推舉當時南方武林的三大門派，白手門堂主「千手」陳洪、霸刀山莊莊主「無聲刀」杜無風和花劍派掌門「梅花劍」周媚聯合發出挑戰書，約戰天仙派掌門諸葛如一在寒風山決一死戰。

天仙派只派出參謀丘玉麟一人應戰，以一敵三。沒人知道勝敗，因為四人在戰後就失了蹤，不知去向。

經此一役，天仙派掌門諸葛如一下令，動用所有人力物力尋找丘玉麟。天仙派的侵略之勢被暫緩，南方武林得以喘息。部份武林人士為了大義，團結起來以抗衡天仙派的力量。各地以反抗天仙派的同盟或組織如雨後春筍而起。其中以南方武林人士為核心的南武盟和北方武林人士組成的北武盟相繼成立。
