Miyo
Sometimes I hate my job. Working for BigHit as a makeup artist? It’s hard. I’m going everywhere with my assigned group. I stay up late sometimes. But my biggest issue is Jay. My group is ENHYPEN. I’ve been with them since before they debuted. I was with all the boys on ‘Into The I-LAND’. I was assigned specifically to Heeseung, the oldest member. He’s so nice and sweet. I love all the boys. But Jay, he bullies me for some reason. Don’t get me wrong but, he’s a dickhead.
“Miyo, are you there?” Heeseung says, smiling and waving a hand in my face. I smile back, grabbing my makeup bag. “Yes?” I say. “Like my outfit for the performance?” He asks. I look him up and down, smiling. “You look really cute, oppa.” I say. He smiles. “‘10 months’?” I ask. “Yeah, we’re performing ‘10 months’. Kind of stressed because we’re still new to the K-pop industry.” He says. “You’ll do great, oppa.” I say. He smiles again. “Now, sit down so I can do your makeup.” I say, pushing him softly. He laughs and I smile. He sits down.
I open my makeup bag and start on his foundation. Jungwon walks in the door. “Here he comes, unnie.” Jungwon says to me. Here comes Jay. I roll my eyes. Just then Jake walks into the room with Sung-hoon, Sunoo, Ni-ki and Jay following behind him. Ni-ki jumps onto Jake’s back. “Hey, Miyo!” Sung-hoon calls to me, walking over to his makeup artist, my best friend, Winter. “Hello, oppa.” I say. “What are you wearing?” Jay says. I ignore Jay, hoping that he is not talking to me. “Hyung, stop it.” Ni-ki says. I turn to Ni-ki and shake my head.
“Don’t indulge in it, Ni-ki.” I say. He frowns. He sees me like one of his bigger sisters because when he got the I-LAND, I showed him around and was nice to him. I ever helped him learn Korean. So he hates it when Jay bullies me. “I was talking to you, Miyo.” Jay says, rudely. He walks over to the couch and sits down, looking at me. “Jay, stop it.” Heeseung says. “It’s okay, Heeseung. I’m wearing a jacket, why?” I say. “It’s ugly on you. Orange doesn’t fit your face nor your skin tone.” He says. “Oh, thank you for the tip, oppa.” I say, starting on Heeseung’s bronzer. “You’re welcome.” He says, getting up and walking behind me to his makeup artist, Lilie.
He purposely bumps into me and I almost drop my palette. Lilie giggles. I sigh heavily and roll my eyes. I close the palette and grab more brushes and lip tint. I blend in Heeseung’s makeup then apply the lip tint. Heeseung stares up at me. When I finish his lip tint, he smiles at me. “What?” I say, giggling softly. He just looks up at me. I swat at him. He catches my hand and pulls me down to his face level. He kisses my lips. “Come on, boys!” Their manager calls. Heeseung pulls away.
The boys run out of the room and get ready to go on stage. “Wanna go watch?” Winter asks, sneakily. I look over at her and smirk. “Let’s go.” I say. We run out of the room, leaving the other artists and watch the boys perform ‘10 months’. The fans scream their names in a fanchant. I really like BigHit’s groups, and I like other groups as well. I like BTS, Stray Kids and Twice. I like a lot of groups. But I love watching the boys perform.
Some of them are so young and they all look so happy when they’re performing. It’s so nice that they have the happiness that they do. Yes, they go through so much but they’re so happy. They love what they do. I stare at Heeseung. He looks so cute doing the dance. He peeks over to the side where me and Winter are. He winks at me. Winter gasps. “Oh, my God~! Miyo!? Did he just--” I smack my hands onto her lips. “Shh!” I say. Winter stares at me with wide eyes.
“Mhm, shut up.” I say, nodding. I slowly pull my hands away from her face. She stares at me. “Explain.” She hisses at me, smiling devilishly. “Not here, Winter!” I whisper. She glares at me. She snatches my arm and we turn, acting like nothing happened, like nothing was said between us. I stare at Heeseung again. “Did he really wink at you just now?” Winter asks, still looking at the stage. “Yes.” I answer. She squeals.
Heeseung glides smoothly in their dance past Jay while looking at me, smiling. I smile back. Jay glances my way. I continue to smile at Heeseung. He glances at Heeseung and sees Heeseung smiling at me. His face gets angry looking but he continues to do his job. I stare at Heeseung, thinking about our kiss. The song stops and the fans scream.
Winter grabs my hand and we run back to the back room. We hurry back to the room and bust into the room. I stop dead in the doorway when I see Lilie messing with my makeup, marking up my palettes and ruining my makeup products that the company gave me to match Heeseung’s skin tone and his skin type. I stare at her. She chuckles as she does it. My eyes start to water. She’s trying to make me lose my job.
“Lilie, stop it!” Winter yells. “Make me! You’re ugly just like Miyo. You guys can’t even do makeup.” Lilie says, laughing. Another girl opens her mouth. Probably to insult Lilie. Winter shakes her head at the other girl and the girl stops. If you bully other staff or injure other staff, you could be fired. Laughing and heavy-breathing members come running to the room. They stop in their tracks. Lilie stops and stares up at Jay, innocently. She likes Jay. She did this for him.
Heeseung pulls me back towards him and wraps his arms around me. I continue to stare. My eyes trail down to the bronzer palette that I bought for Heeseung because the one the company gave me irritated his skin. I spent my own money on that palette. Heeseung drags me out of the doorway and he hugs me. I start to cry. “Shh, shh.” He whispers, over and over, trying to comfort me. “How could she be so evil, oppa?” I cry. “It’s okay. It’ll be okay.” He says. He rubs my head.
Jungwon comes running up to us. He hugs me. Soon I’m a circle of the boys, all of them hugging tightly, except for Jay. “Group hug.” Jungwon says. Lilie is dragged out of the room by guards. She’s crying. Jay comes out of the room and looks at me. I wipe my tears and frown. He comes over and he tries to touch my hand. I snatch my hand away. “Don’t touch me.” I say, trying to keep my calm. I don’t want to be fired as well.
“I’m sorry, Miyo. She shouldn’t have done that. I didn’t tell her to do that.” He says. I glare at him.
“But you guys always bullied me together. How can I believe you, hm, oppa?” I say. “Please, trust me.” Jay says. I scoff and walk back into the room. I grab my bag and my phone. “Miyo, where are you going?” Heeseung says. “To calm down, oppa.” I say, angrily. I stomp out of the room and go to the staff bathroom. I lock the door after me and slide down to the floor.
I cry harder than before. I do nothing to nobody. I’m sweet and caring. Why am I treated like this? I look up at the ceiling, still crying. “Maybe I should just resign…?” I say, quietly. “No, Miyo! Don’t leave me!” I hear Ni-ki say through the door. I get up and snatch the door open. “Ni-ki?” I say. He waves at me, innocently. I sigh and smile. “What’s wrong?” I say. “I didn’t like to see you cry, Unnie!” Ni-ki says. “Aw, my little Nikitty, it’s okay.” I say, pulling him to me. He’s taller than me at 6’0, me being 5’4.
“Unnie, I love you.” He says. “I love you too, Ni-ki.” I say. He pulls away, smiling. He sticks his hand out in front of me. I smile. We do our handshake. He laughs. “Come on.” He says, pulling me back to the room. I walk in and look at Heeseung. He’s grabbing a makeup wipe and trying to wipe his makeup off. I laugh and walk over, grabbing the wipe. He looks up at me. I focus down on his face and wipe off the makeup, softly.
He stares up at my face the entire time.
“Don’t leave.” He whispers. I smile. “I won’t leave.” I whisper back. He grabs for my phone. “Oppa, what are you doing?” I say. “Can I see your phone?” He asks. “Sure.” I say, looking at him, confused. I pull my phone out of my back pocket and hand it to him. I watch him on my phone. “What are you doing?” I ask, confused. “Giving you my number.” He says. My eyes go wide open. He hands my phone back to me and grabs my hand. “Text me later.” He says. I smile down at him. “Yes.” I say.
“Come on, Miyo. We have to go.” Winter says, walking up behind me. “O-Okay.” I say, pulling away from Heeseung. “See you tomorrow, Miyo.” He says. “See you later.” I say, grabbing my things. “Bye!” Jungwon says. He runs over to me. “Bye, Jungwon.” I say as he hugs me. Ni-ki, Sunoo, Sung-hoon, and Jay run over and join the hug. Lastly, Heeseung comes up and hugs me. “Buy, guys.” I say. Winter grabs my hand and we leave.
“So, Miyo…” Winter says, smiling. We walk down the street, holding hands. “Yes, Winter?” I say, acting like I’m irritated with her but smiling. She pushes me. We laugh. “What’s going on with you and Heeseung?” She says, wiggling her eyebrows. “Nothing. He may have kissed me, that’s all.” I say, acting like it’s not a big deal. Winter squeals. “Oh, my God! Really!?” She says. “Mhm,” I hum, looking down the street at the next crossroad. “Miyo, he’s fucking hot. I can’t believe you’re flirting with him! I’m so happy for you, bestie!” Winter says.
I shake my head, smiling. We cross the street. “You know I’ve never dated anybody.” I say. “Yes, but that is because all the boys at our school were dickheads.” She says. “Yes and because I was not pretty. I am not pretty.” I say, as we get onto the sidewalk. Winter punches me. “Ow!” I scream and then cover my mouth. “Say you’re not pretty again, Jeong Miyo. I will hurt you.” Winter hisses at me. “You already did.” I say. We stop walking.
“Miyo, you are beautiful. You say, nothing is about looks, it’s about the heart and personality of someone. And yet, you’re being a hypocrite by saying you’re not pretty. You are the most beautiful person I’ve ever met, inside and out.” Winter says. “Well, damn. Okay.” I say. She glares at me and I smile. “You’re also a virgin, aren’t you?” She says. “Yes and I am happy to say so.” I say. Winter looks at me. “Shut up.” She says. I smile and jump on her back. “Onwards, noble steed so I can eat food.” I say and point in front of us at the Noodles and Company. She laughs and shakes her head. “Let’s go eat some food.” She says and walks back to the restaurant.
Lilie
I walk out of the building, crying. I got fired. Jay was so angry at me for what I did. All the times he bullies Miyo and I do it once on my own and he is mad. I love him but he doesn’t even look at me. He toys with me to help him bully Miyo but he didn’t like it this time. I pull out my phone and call my mom. “Eomma?” I whine through the phone. “Lilie? Why are you crying, aga?” My mom says. “I got f-fired from my j-job.” I cry, walking towards my apartment. “Aw, aga. Why? Want to come over?” My mom says, worry in her voice. “Y-yes.” I cry. “Okay, I’m coming to get you. Where are you?” My mom says. I hear her grabbing her keys.
“Wangsan-ro and Dangdaemun-gu.” I cry into my phone. “Okay, I’m on my way. Stay where you are.” My mom says. “Okay, eomma.” I say. She hangs up and I sit down on the ground. “I love you, Jay.” I whisper in my arms and I start to cry even more.
Heeseung
“Jay, why’d you do that to Miyo?” I say, walking out of my room. “I didn’t tell Lilie to do that, hyung.” Jay says. “Why’d she do it then? You and her always bully Miyo together. Why’d you get mad this time?” I ask. “I don’t know, hyung. Damn. I didn’t tell Lilie to do that and she was wrong for what she tried to do.” Jay says. Jungwon looks between me and Jay. “Calm down, everyone. Let’s be calm and eat our dinner.” He says. I stare into Jay’s eyes. He stares right back at me.
“Come on, guys.” Jake comes up and pulls us into the kitchen. “We have food to eat.” Sunoo says. “Come on, Jay.” I say and pull him to me. He smiles. “Besides, Lilie is fired.” Jay says. I smile. “Wait, hyung, now who will be your makeup artist?” Jungwon says. We all sit down and start to eat. “I have no idea. I guess we’ll see tomorrow.” Jay says.
