Chapter Thirteen

Elizabeth saw the regal Lord.

'Today has been a strange day', she said.

'Vampires are fighting their own wars, my Lady', Lord James said.

'Wars are terrible, and a lot of people are dead'.

'Why are people dying, my Lord? Isn't it so that you're afraid of death', Elizabeth said. Lord James smiled.

'I'm not afraid of death; death was three hundred years' ago'.

'Are you going to be Master of the City?'.

'Yes, my Lady. And you're to be married to me'.

'Married. But, Mother-'.

'Your Mother knows my own Mother, and approves of the union'.

'Oh, I see'.

Lord James stared at her.

'Believe in me', he said.

And she nodded, as they ate dinner with the other six vampires.
