It was a dark and stormy night. A strong wind is blowing across the fresh green grass fields and bringing the strongest trees into swaying; thunder rolling mightier than any drum and lightening flashing bright and quick like the flashes of a camera.
A man is walking upon a rural road. His pale bare feet caked in mud. His knee-long marine-blue trousers were ill used and had plenty of moth-eaten holes. His upper torso was bare; cold rain drops pearled down his pale smooth skin like marble. With the strong wind those drops stung like knives against his skin but that was the least of his worries. His whole body burned, ached in every move, in every breath he took. He clenched his teeth to hold back the pain and focus ahead to reach his goal. More rain drops dripped from the man's long wet dark hair over his forehead, neck, shoulders and back. His big honey brown eyes were focused to what lies before him. They sparkled with temper and determination. Fighting to take the next step. To move on.
After some period of time fighting against the rain, wind and the pain a light shone bright like a star among the rain and darkness of the stormy night. As the man moved on bigger the light grew from a dot to a rectangular form and soon presented to be a light from a window of a simple house. The man staggered on towards the house until he stood before the main door. Leaning with one hand against the wall to support his balance due to his numbness of pain while he raised the other hand to knock.
Within moments the door opened and there stood before him a young woman with wavy black hair, pale complexion and sky-blue eyes. "What do you want?" She demanded skeptical while raising an eyebrow, gripping with one hand tightly to the door.
The man blinked at her and drew a deep breath to gather his strength. "Please. May I come in? May I spend the night; just one night? Or at least 'til it has ceased to rain." Asked the man politely; his eyes focused upon the woman's. Excited and eager to hear what will be her response. Will she say yes or no?
"Can I see your ID?" She asked and her eyebrows narrowed with suspicion.
"I have none."
"What's your name?"
"Akasha."
"I'm Pamela. Come in." Pamela introduced friendly and let Akasha in. "Come. I'll show where the bathroom is to dry yourself." She smiled and led him to the bathroom.
Akasha looked around with curiosity. Once he stepped into the bathroom, Pamela gave him a few towels and closed the door as she left. Akasha watched in silence how she left, closed the door and locked it from the outside. Akasha gave a short chuckle to himself, amused of her distrust and precaution to an angel. An angel that just fell from heaven two nights ago in order to search for compassion amongst the humans. Akasha still has not gotten used to the bare back as he looked in the mirror. The wings are gone without a trace. Slowly in his own time he dried himself up the best he could. He even rung out the best he could the water from his trousers over the bathtub, the trousers actually belonged to a scarecrow. His back was facing to the door. Drying up in his own time.
Suddenly Pamela unlocked the door and walked in without thinking. "Oh! I'm so sorry!" She called out as she saw Akasha ringing out and rapidly closed the door. Akasha quickly winced together of surprise and rapidly slipped on his trousers. A feeling of embarrassment over came him while Pamela flushed in shame. "I'm sorry! So sorry, Akasha!" She apologized through the closed door. Her arms wrapped around her waist leaning beside the door against the wall and staring up to the ceiling. Her pale cheeks plushed. Soon Akasha opened the bathroom door and looked at Pamela.
She quickly turned her head away from him in shame, expecting to be giving an angered glare at her. "I'm sorry." She whispered. Slowly she dared to face him; noticing he said nothing and their eyes met. No angered glare. Pamela noticed Akasha's golden honey-brown eyes and Akasha noticed Pamela's sky-blue eyes. Pamela realized that Akasha is not any ordinary man due to his silence, his perfect marble statue and his eyes. Is he a man born with great swallowing silence and do those big warming honey-brown eyes of his see everything? One thing she knew he is trustworthy but the reason can not be explained. It is some sort of hunch or a feeling that assures her.
Pamela blinked and looked away to gather her thoughts. "This way to the living-room where you can spend the night on the sofa." She walked ahead.
Akasha followed her and looked further around him, curious to her style of living. "Thank you for your hospitality." Thanked Akasha calmly as he stepped into the living-room and saw the sofa with a folded blanket on top.
"The rest I leave you to it and see you first thing in the morning. Good night." Gave Pamela distant while kneading her hands of nervousness and left. He sat on the sofa and looked around him. Soon his eyes were focused to the floor before him. Barely believing a human had let him in but not very warm hearted, rather distant and cautious. Cautious of what? He wondered. Does she know that he is not a human, that he is an angel?
Many hours passed when the weather calmed down and Akasha remained wide awake, staring out the window. His mind wondering how the humans think and handle. Why were there often humans that shut the door in his face and then very few others like Pamela letting him in? Why were the others more warm hearted than Pamela? Unknowingly he fell asleep. As he opened his eyes bright light stung in his eyes. Quick-witted he sat up straight and looked around as if searching for something big. He noticed Pamela all dressed for the day with a mug at hand sitting on the arm of the sofa, dark rings were noticeable under her eyes of a restless night.
"Good morning. Slept well?" She asked friendly with a grin.
Akasha rubbed his eyes and nodded. "Somehow I did." Knowing as an angel he usually never sleeps.
"Would you like a cup of coffee?"
"Coffee?" He wondered.
Pamela chuckled shortly. "A hot beverage that helps you wake up and give some energy for the day."
"Oh, no thank you."
"Then perhaps tea or juice? You must eat and drink something before you leave. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."
"I don't eat or drink." He gave truthfully in a calm tone.
"I don't care of you fast to keep your great figure. You will eat." Gave Pamela firmly like a mother to a child and walked ahead towards the kitchen.
Slowly Akasha stood up. His body was still aching in every move as before. Still aching from the great fall and not yet accustomed to live in this human body without wings. Locked in this small human body to look friendlier and above all to prove if humans are compassionate. He walked after Pamela into the kitchen. The air held a fine smell of coffee that penetrated his nostrils and other smells of food such as toasted whole bread.
Suddenly Akasha's stomach made a loud sound. Quickly he hugged his stomach like a child and wondered what on earth was that.
"My, someone is hungry. Sit down. Take a piece of bread." Invited Pamela before she took another bite of her toasted whole bread spread with orange marmalade at the opposite side of the table.
Hesitantly Akasha sat at the closest chair.
She watched how he sat and just looked about the table. "Have you ever had a breakfast?" She sniggered with a sense of sarcasm.
Akasha shook his head.
Pamela froze in awe with widened eyes. Wondering if he is serious or playing along the joke?
"I've never eaten. Why did my body give out that sound?" He asked confused to her.
Pamela swallowed loudly her bit and blinked. "Seriously?" He is making no joke of this.
Akasha only looked at her, waiting patiently for her answer.
"The sound came to be exact from your stomach. Saying it needs to be filled. The body is like a engine or motor and it needs fuel for energy to move and think. Food and drink is fuel to your body." She paused. Suddenly she stood up from her chair and made space from Akasha. "Wha-what are you?" She asked carefully, insecure and afraid.
"I'm an angel; an angel of heaven seeking for compassion amongst the humans."
