People fail to understand the stories they can give others. Not like a written book, but memories they take forever. The happiness, sadness, anger, love, and eventual bliss for some. Everyone writes figuratively in everyone's book on earth, but what if there was someone who wrote it for one person? Spends each day copying memories to write to the person they are assigned to. Well, that is my reality. Every person on earth has someone assigned to them, and I'm assigned to someone. The rules are simple... You don't interfere, you write everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The last one... you always pick a person you don't know or relate to in any way.
I follow almost all the rules for my assignment: Landon Davis. He is 23, has a stable job, stable housing, but no partner. Every night he longs for his old one, which thankfully I don't copy those memories, but still. Currently, I'm just writing his memories of people passing by. Which is quite interesting, he always notices the good and rarely judges. Which is quite rare for a 23 year old. He had a partner once, his name was Thomas. They met when they were both 18, and fell in love. They got engaged at 20 and married by 21. Then... it all fell apart. At 21 a couple of months after their wedding, Thomas was diagnosed with acute kidney failure due to an underlying condition. He was on the transplant list, but until then it was dialysis. The weak immune system Thomas had, failed him... months later he turned 22, in the hospital. Every night, Landon sat by Thomas in his hospital bed for the 5 months he was in there after turning 22. Every. Single. Night. Watching as Thomas slowly lost the light he had, and when he looked into his eyes by the 5th month, there was no light. There was one day though, the day Thomas pulled through for Landon, knowing it was probably his last day. Thomas was bedridden at this point, but they talked, laughed, kissed, and just remembered the times they had.
What Landon did not know that Thomas had signed a DNR. So the night that Landon's world came crashing down as Thomas flatlined, he learned that his partner of nearly 5 years... had no chance of coming back.
The way people get here, is after you die you come to this place, the night I flatlined in the hospital, I came here. They asked me what my name was, and at first I couldn't even get the words out, my last name was my partner's last name. We had been together for 5 years and here I am just losing my life and ending the time I had with him. After a little bit I finally mustered enough courage to say my name,
"My name is Thomas Davis."
