College friends had done their part of the day and they decided to chill at the nearest local coffee shop. As the typical, they talk of things: past, present, future, weird, common, possible and the impossible. It started with their greatest enemy Miss Cath, their physics teacher then later it was about jaywalking and the new phone everyone was dying to have; till it was about their grandparents. At first it was sad, serious but it didn’t last since most of them liked to laugh than to cry; then there’s Bucky, cutting the noise of the group as he tells a story about his grandparents.
“So my Ma Justin was alone in the house one night because Pa Jay was out with his friends. He wasn’t supposed to drink and, you know, wild stuff, so he wasn’t able to go home that night. The nurse who was taking care of them doesn’t like night shifts so they both have to be alone and helpless at night; and the family’s fine with that cuz we have cameras all over the place.”
“Seriously? Is this a joke again Bucky?” Linda won’t just believe everything he says for the History major student was fond of horror and thriller films.
“Just stick with me ok! It’s gonna be good.” He smirks.
“Continue, continue,” Stones loves to hear jokes. He’s too interested that the furrow between his brows warns everyone not to interfere further.
“While Ma was sleeping quietly, it was about three in the morning when she was disturbed by a crashing sound from below.”
“Oh three, the scary hour, here we go!” Diana whispers and Wil shushed her with a gesture.
Bucky added “With a rifle and a flash light, she went down stairs as any American would do when their invaded.” and breathes.
“And then, and then” Stones already felt the next part would be the punch line.
“Ma was swinging her light everywhere, trying to find the cause of the noise and there she saw a naked man carrying their flat screen TV.” He laughed lightly while others laughed a bit louder, taking other customer’s attention “From shock of all the natural ugliness of the old man, she collapsed. The man was shocked as well so he threw the television out of the window immediately, destroying his treasure. The robber cursed as he realized his actions and because he was quite loud, Ma woke up again. She was able to sneak up at him and hit him with the handle of the rifle then she called the cops afterwards. But it didn’t end that fast because she beat him down too soft, you know, old people lose their strength so he got up and made his run. Ma was brave so she went after him but they decided to stay in the house and they started screaming at it did startle the neighborhood. Ma said ‘Get out of my lawn!’ while the robber said ‘This is my property, you get out!’ and they were running around until she slipped and crashed onto his balls- literally because he was naked. Ma collapsed, again, because of disgust and the robber got the gun from her hand and he was about to shoot her when suddenly, the door was shattered by the police and they calmed Pa down telling him, he should not shot his wife.”
While trying to get air back to her lungs Linda asked “Does your grandparents have Alzheimer’s? Not being offensive ok?”
“Yes and its funny most of the time. Sometimes it’s better to appreciate things than to get broken because of it.” Bucky confesses. It was a serious thought but somehow, everyone decided to laugh through it as him.
“Why did he take the TV? He remembers it’s his house right? And really, why is he naked?” Stones asked while wiping his tears of joy.
“Thing get crazy when your drunk Ton, you know that, and he wanted to watch something with his friend as they drink more so was he planning to take it to the next neighborhood.” He answered and sipped his cold beverage while all of the people in the shop laugh their guts out.
