Dear Mack,

We came waltzing into your life unexpected,

We saw the pictures of you

Displayed so homely and warm,

We loved you at first sight,

We were lucky to have met you.

You brightened our lives when we needed it most,

You made what was a living hell

Into our own private island of tranquility.

You made life fun to live,

You made it bearable.

You were with us all the way through our hardships,

Hard comings,

Brutal mishaps,

Angry days and sad days,

Everyday you were there,

And we loved you.

I remember coming home that night.

I'll remember that night for the rest of my life.

It was like any normal night,

Was expecting to slip out of my day clothes and into my night ones,

You ambling toward my bed and trying to hop on it,

Bless your short, elongated body.

But no,

That was not to be.

You sat in front of the square fan, panting like hell underneath my blanket draped over you.

My heart stopped and I felt seventy thousand degrees too cold.

You stared blankly into my eyes as if to say, "there's no need to worry, I know who you are. I love you."

The way you crawled a few short steps every few minutes, it shattered my heart.

I was with you every little step of the way.

You made it out into the living room,

I sat on the couch, not knowing what to do.

I don't think any of us did.

They tried to take you to the hospital,

But instead,

Right by the table you lay.

I did not want to see anymore.

You died right there, in the warmth of our home and all our love,

Even grandma cried for you.

Though it was months ago, my heart is still torn to pieces by losing you.

Picking up the pieces has become difficult due to the shards of hurt jabbing me in the fingers.

I let losing you sit with me, deep inside my soul, it has been shoved.

Stored away my pain.

It's as if you were never here; I hate that.

You ought to know the new puppy by now.

Sure, she's filled a bottomless void within my heart,

But nothing will ever be quite the same, now that you've been gone.

You've been there for me, so I wanted to be there for you.

Battling with my heart has become a nonsensical, fatiguing game.

Surely you must feel the same?

I've needed to do this for a while, so, I hope you don't mind.

Don't tell me not to still grieve for you, because it hurts if I don't.

I hope you're playing around and romping with all the good hearted puppies of the earth,

Wherever you are.

Tell my mamaw I said 'hi' for me, would you, buddy?

I love you, Pup. Always have since the day I met you, and I always will.
