'The Society is grateful for the newcomers. John and Eloise Patterson', Mrs. Frasier said.

Eloise stood near the water fountain.

'I hear you are from out of town', Rebecca James said.

'Yes, but Misty Falls is our city now. I'm Eloise Patterson', she said.

'And your brother?'.

'John isn't part of the Society'.

'Soon he will be'.

'And me?'.

'Yes'.

'Then what will happen to us?'.

'You'll find out'.

Eloise nodded, and waited for Rebecca James to show them to hall.

'You seem unnerved', Rebecca said.

'About what?', John gasped.

'About us'.

'Us. Oh, the way you want me to be about the Society...'.

'The Society has fallen on hard times'.

'Oh, really, Patrick'.

'Yes. I'm afraid so'.

'Who are you?', John asked him.

'Patrick Maguire', Patrick answered.

'The son of the oil tycoon J. T. Maguire'.

'Yes'.

'From Austin, Texas'.

'The same'.

'He is not a Society President'.

Patrick stopped.

'In fact he was. From 1977 to 1987'.

'That was a long time ago'.

'Yes. This is 2020, the year we all need to forget'.

'Because of CO-VID 19'.

'Yes'.

'Next year is going to be better'.

The talk ended, and the bell rang.

'The Society is afraid of Rebecca'

'Is that so?', Patrick said.

'Yes'.

'She is intolerable', Eloise said.

'You want to wear a mask?'.

'I loathe them', Eloise said to Patrick.

'Wear it. It's a fashion item in Misty Falls'.

'Hurry up', Rod stated.

John smiled, and they placed the novels back in the shelves.

'It is a queer thing indeed to shatter the fabric of time and space', Oswald Rich said. He looked at the group of teenagers; he held onto a book. In the old days, queer meant strange and odd; these days it meant something all together different. The Principal stood out in the crowd.

'And you're afraid...', Eloise begun to say.

'Nothing is frightening, Eloise. Except for time itself'.
