Marion looked at the lake.
She focused on the windows.
They were barred.

She imagined what it meant to be free.
Her Daddy and Mommy always came at night.
She forced herself to hear.
The Lake.
It was on the waters off New York.

It was full of rats on the ground.

The lake was a distant memory, as she fled her bedroom. Nearby was a key on the hall stand; the key was her salvation. She grabbed it, and opened the front door. She ran away in her blue dress. She was barefoot. It didn't matter. Then, she breathed hard, as she walked into the shadows.
