Five hours for one stupid mishap. Jensen couldn’t believe his own stupidity. One minute he was cutting vegetables to make himself dinner, the next the knife slipped and he’d damn near cut his own thumb off. He knew it would need at least a few stitches so instead of calling Jared and listening to the teasing forever, he wrapped it up and drove himself to the hospital where he sat for five hours before finally getting seen.
He was on his way out when he saw you waiting to check in. You didn’t look great; pale, sweaty, slightly shaky. You took a breath and he saw your eyes roll back. He knew the look and he sped into action, catching you as you collapsed, stopping you from hitting the ground. “Can I get some help?” Jensen yelled. “She just passed out!”
“What happened?” A group of nurses and a doctor rushed out with a gurney, taking you from Jensen and lying you down. “Did you bring her in?”
“No.” Jensen shook his head. “I was on my way out and I saw her about to faint. I caught her. I have no idea who she is. She’s burning up though.”
He wasn’t sure why he did what he did next. All he really wanted was to go back home, maybe stop and grab some fast food on the way, but he couldn’t. You’d come in all alone and it didn’t seem as though anyone was coming in to sit with you. They would’ve come in by now if they were just parking the car. You looked so fragile and he couldn’t help it, he followed you back to the treatment room.
The staff didn’t question it when he said he didn’t want you to be alone. They simply nodded and let him stay. He waited while they ran tests and hooked you up to an IV. He sat at your bedside, watching as the color came back to your cheeks when they started fluids. It took about an hour before you stirred, groaning weakly and turning toward him. “Where am I?” You questioned. He opened his mouth to speak when you remembered you’d brought yourself to the hospital, feeling like certain death. “Are you my doctor?”
“No.” He chuckled. You wished he was, he was absolutely gorgeous. Perfect green eyes. Plump, pink lips. Chiseled features. “You were standing in line to sign in and I was on my way out. I saw you wobble about to pass out and I caught you when you went down. Name’s Jensen.” Jensen was actually a bit stunned that you didn’t recognize him. Not that he had an ego at all, but he was used to people asking him if he was that guy from that show, but you didn’t seem to know him at all. He found it refreshing.
“Y/N.” You mumbled. “You stayed with a stranger? You’re not gonna kill me are you?”
“No.” Jensen laughed. “I just noticed you were alone and I thought maybe you could use a friend or something. And you did pass out in my arms. What kind of guy would I be if I just left without making sure you were ok?”
“And they say chivalry is dead.” You smiled softly up at him, pulling yourself up to a sitting position in the uncomfortable bed. “I do feel a little better though, thank you for staying. I’m sure you have a family or something to get home to.”
“No.” Jensen shrugged. “Actually I live alone. I can stay if you want. Unless you have someone I can call or something.”
“No, they’re all in other states.” You let out a cough and cringed at the pain in your chest. “But you don’t have to stay. That’s really sweet but you don’t even know me. I’ll be fine.”
“You hungry?” Jensen questioned. “They don’t feed people in this place. I was on my way home and I was gonna grab some food but I can run out and grab you some if you want.” You smiled at the way he completely ignored you and was planning to stay anyway, despite your protests.
“I could eat. I think.”
“Good. I’ll be back in a few minutes. Don’t go anywhere.” Jensen stood to leave and you watched shamelessly, trailing your eyes down his body until he turned around and you tore your eyes away quickly, hoping he didn’t catch you.

“Where would I go?” You laughed and held up your arm with the IV tubing in it and Jensen winked, laughing back at you on his way out the door.
You were half asleep when your door opened again, the rustling of fast food bags and the sound of ice sloshing around in the cups pulled your attention toward it. “Hey, sorry I didn’t mean to wake you.” Jensen whispered. “I found your doctor out there.”
“It’s ok.” You sighed and opened your eyes, looking toward the door. Behind Jensen a shorter man with graying hair and a mustache walked in, carrying a clipboard. The badge clipped to his breast pocket read Dr. Sanders. “So are the test results back? Am I actually dying?”
“No.” Dr. Sanders gave you a small smile and a headshake. “I’m sure it feels that way. You do have a pretty bad upper respiratory infection and probably a touch of the flu. How long have you been feeling ill?”
“Probably…2 or 3 weeks?” You shrugged your shoulders. “I don’t know. I haven’t really had time to go to the doctor and then today I felt so bad I came here. I don’t have to stay do I?”
“No, I’m gonna send you home with antibiotics and some other medications. I think you should be just fine with those and rest. Get plenty of fluids, all the normal types of things.”
“Work will just love that.” You mumbled mostly to yourself. “Thanks, doc.”
“I’ll send a nurse in with all your discharge instructions.” Dr. Sanders smiled again and walked out, leaving you alone with Jensen who held the bag of food out for you. You reached your hand in, pulling out the burger he’d bought for you.
“Thanks, Jensen. You really didn’t have to.”
“I know. I wanted to.” He shrugged. “Just like I wanna give you a ride home.”
“No. You’ve done enough.” You gave him as stern of a look as you could muster. “Besides my car is out there. It’s fine. I can get myself home. Really.”
“You passed out in my arms out there, Y/N. I’m not gonna let you drive yourself home. If you pass out behind the wheel I’ll never forgive myself.” Jensen looked right into your eyes and you practically melted. It had to be the illness making you so damn complacent. You’d never given in so easy in your life.
“Fine.” You sighed in complete exasperation, shoving another bite of burger into your mouth.
The ride to your place was comfortable, calm even. You were thinking to yourself about your mother’s reaction if she’d known you’d let some strange guy drive you home and you must’ve laughed out loud. Jensen turned to you, smirking, eyes crinkling, and huffing a laugh. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing. I was just thinking about my mom’s reaction to this and how she’d freak the fuck out.” You laughed again, resting your head against the cold window. “It’s like 2am, I’m letting some strange guy drive me home, it really just has all the elements of a low budget horror movie.”
Jensen laughed, tilting his head back. It was a beautiful laugh, so vibrant and full of life. “Well, I’m not a serial killer, sweetheart.” He said, pulling up into your driveway and opening his door. He walked around to your door and opened it for you, offering his hand.
“Serial killers would say that.” You shrugged and took his hand. You were still weak from earlier. He was right; you probably would not have been able to drive yourself home if you’d tried. He wrapped an arm around your waist and guided you to the front door. “But I think I’ll take my chances.”
“Here.” Jensen took your phone, typing his number into it and handing it back. “Give me a call tomorrow sometime and I’ll take you to pick up your car. Don’t argue. I don’t wanna hear it.”
“Ok.” You chuckled, pushing some stray hair behind your ear. “Thank you, Jensen. For everything.”
“You’re welcome.” You noticed him blush as he started to walk back to his truck. He didn’t leave your driveway until you were safely inside the house. Even then he waited a few minutes, almost as if he was debating with himself on if he wanted to leave.
As soon as he pulled away you trudged into your bedroom. Everything still hurt and your chest was tight, which you attributed to the infection you let get so out of hand. You changed into your pajamas and collapsed into a heap on the bed. All you could think about was Jensen as you fell asleep that night, your dreams filled with nothing but your green-eyed hero.
You woke the next morning still feeling like complete shit. You managed a shower and a bit of breakfast before calling your boss to tell him you wouldn’t be in for at least the next few days until you could see your doctor. It went over just as well as you’d expected. You got screamed at and berated by Don until you cried and he hung up on you.
You sat on your couch with your head in your hands, choked sobs coming from your throat, until you remembered you still had to get your car. You picked your phone back up, staring at Jensen’s number for a few minutes. “No.” You murmured to yourself. “I’m not gonna impose on him anymore.” You switched over to the Uber app, getting a car to take you back to the hospital instead.
Once you got your car you drove to Starbucks, hoping some hot coffee would make you feel better. As soon as you ordered and turned around you stopped in your tracks. “Y/N? What are you doing here?”
“I –“ You stuttered, looking up into Jensen’s sparkling, emerald eyes. “I went to get my car and I thought some hot coffee might help.”
“I said to call me.” Jensen sighed and grabbed your upper arms. “You look awful. Sit. I’ll get your coffee.”
You took a seat and rested your chin in your palm. Jensen came back quickly; passing you your coffee and another hot drink. “It’s tea. Might be better than coffee.” He explained.
You nodded and took a drink, sighing in bliss as the heat coated your throat. “Thanks.” You barely recognized your own voice it sounded so bad.
“I don’t mean to pry,” Jensen said, looking at you with concern, “but did something else happen?”
“My boss is a dick. I think he fired me for being sick but he was yelling so much I’m not really sure.” A tear trickled down your cheek and you had no idea why you’d just told him that. It just came out naturally.
“Come here.” Jensen reached out to hug you and you pulled away shaking your head.
“You’ll get sick.” You murmured, tears streaming down your face. “I don’t - I should go.” You suddenly bolted out of your chair and sped out of the Starbucks, leaving a very confused Jensen in your wake.
