角色塑造上揉合了第二次十字軍的背景和創作中的早夭天才麻瘋王的元素，但主角鮑德溫卻並不是主角。在大時代中的每一個成功留下名字的人其實都是某個傳奇的主角，同時也會客串在其他的故事中。
