3. A Good Deed

Isaac sat on the bench in the town square, cold, hungry and heartbroken.

He couldn't bring himself to beg any more.

He just wanted to die, and be with his family again.

Then he spotted it.

The white leather wallet with the silver buckle.

He picked it up and opened it, not thinking about what he was doing.

There was a name printed on the card, perhaps a little scratched, but otherwise mostly legible.

"Patr-cia R--d--s"

The first name was Patricia.

Pat...

Isaac and Georgia were going to call their child Pat.

Patrick for a boy and Patricia for a girl.

Oh, their unborn child...

He carefully considered what to do.

Take the money?

There was quite a bit.

And he needed it.

That was wrong.

He would hand it in to the police.

That was the right thing to do.
