Wilted

Red, white, pink

drooping in an urn

set on the dining room table

where the sunlight can

complement the dirty water.

Discarded petals scattered below

framed by car keys

and last night's snack wrapper.

The smell of decay

sneaking through the house

like a dead mouse in an unseen trap.

Still, I can't throw them out.
