It was Zack's idea.
His idea to go to the lake at Black Park. It didn't matter that it was early January, the snow in inches deep and the lake frozen solid. Neither did he care for the sign posts warning:
'DANGER. DO NOT WALK ON THE ICE'.
This, however, was like a red flag to a bull for Anna. That and the fact that Zack, with his dark hair, tattoos and mysterious demenior had asked her to accompany him to the lake. It was all too tempting for her to resist.
It would be fun, he insisted it would be, and it was indeed a beautiful spot.
Especially as there was to be a full moon that night. He'd bring ice skates too. Who cared about stupid rules anyway!
Besides, who would know if she kept it to herself. She would tell her mom she was staying the night at a girlfriends house.
She had already promted her best friend Gwen with the exact cover story Gwen was to tell Anna's mother if necessary. Gwen would do anything to please Anna. Even lie. A fact Anna knew only too well.
Life was way too short not to grab it by the horns. You're only young once! Well, Thats what Anna thought.
He was already there. She could see his silloette in the moonlight. He was right. This place was beautiful.
For a moment she took in the scene. She forgot about the intense cold as she took in the scenery. The trees, like twisted grey skellingtons framed the frozen lake illuminated by the moonlight. She had made the right decision. She grinned inwardly.
He noticed her as she made her way closer to him. She was maybe but a meter away when she hesitated for a moment. He didn't miss a beat.
' It's ok hun , I don't bite' he smiled'.
She noticed he had perfect teeth, but for unusually prominent insisors. To her this made him so much more attractive. Quirky even.
He immediately pulled her to him. He held her in a long embrace. She reciprocated in kind. Maybe too eagerly...
He smelled of marijuana, soap and a hint of tobacco. All of which she found intoxicatingly sexy. She was a little dissapointed when he slowly pulled away.
He took her by the hand, leading her to a nearby tree.
Pulling out a ready rolled joint he held it up as if for inspection.
'One for the road love?'
One for the road? What the fuck was he talking about?
He leant against the large tree trunk tucking one leg up to it, put the joint to his lips, lit it with a Zippo lighter and inhaled deeply before passing it to her.
She coughed her guts up. Her experimental drug trial had gone horribly wrong. She decided she would leave this kind of thing to the professionals like Zack in future.
He didn't laugh or make her feel more of a fool in any way. Just took the joint from her dangled it between his lips, produced a bottle of Evian from his back pack then held it to her mouth for her to take a sip or two.
'Dont be led into temptation sweetheart. It's a road to hell. And I know all about that'.
He kissed her tenderly on the forehead.
She wanted to ask him what he meant but he had already discarded his joint in the snow and produced two pairs of ice scates from his bag before she had the chance to utter a word.
She noticed her skates were emblazed with a dimante fire motif and were the perfect fit. He had never asked her what shoe size she took!
He sat down her in the crook of the tree to put them on for her. She thought the gesture was a lovely one. Still, she couldn't help feel just a little awkward by it.
When he had put on his own skates( black, not nearly as fancy as hers) He took her by the hand and led her to the frozen lake.
She noticed he was an excellent scater. She knew she was good, she had taken lessons as a younger girl but he was as good if not a better skater than she was.
They were scating fast now, hand in hand. Speeding past trees, leaving lines in the ice. She giggled with delight as she he lifted her up and spun her around and around.
She caught her breath when he was done.
'Where did you learn how to do that!'
He was holding her close now. She could feel his breath on her cheeks, warm and in contrast to the stark cold of the outdoors.
'I sold my soul to the Devil. There a lot of things that I was ok at before. But now, I could be and do anything I want.'
She half expected him to laugh any moment. Tell her this was just some silly joke. When he didn't, she suddenly felt chills down her spine. The sensation, she was sure, had nothing to do with the cold.
'Stop Zack. You are scaring me!. Don't tease!' she let out a nervous giggle.
He looked concerned.
'I'm sorry, babe. I get a bit carried away sometimes. Just remember it would never be my idea to scare you. Never! come closer, please.'
He held her head in his hands, she noticed his black eyes holding her gaze for a moment, then she closed hers to kiss him back. Their kiss was deep, passionate.
Her heart seemed to be pounding right out of her chest. She never wanted this moment to end.
'I think I love you Anna. I'm Sorry. So sorry. Please forgive me'
Those words, the deafening shattering ice, her screams before the icy cold water filled her lungs to suffocate her, were the last sounds she heard before she succumbed to the darkness. The abyiss.

The body recoverd from Black Park Lake in the early hours of Friday morning has been identified as 16 year old school girl Anna Lowe.
The parents of Anna have been advised of her death.
A girl confirmed to be Anna's best friend, Gwen Barker, has told Police that her friend Anna was due to meet 18 year old Zack Luke, a school friend, on Wednesday evening. Police are still looking for the boy to help with their enquires.
When Zack arrived at the equizitaly plush hotel room after his long flight, he put his guitar in the corner, took the life changing document's from his pockets and spread them on the dresser table. A new life indeed. A new name, a new identity, hell, even new finger prints. He looked different, felt different. Lucifer was certainly was keeping his side of the bargain.
Tomorrow he had an audition. Front man for a new rock band. Lead vocals and lead guitar. He knew the gig was his. Success was inament. He only had to sit back and let it happen.
In twenty years he would have to meet with the big guy again. Offer up another sacrifice on a plate. No matter, to Zack that seemed a Lifetime away and besides nothing would tear away at his heart as much as having to give him Anna. The love of his life, Anna.
He wouldn't cry. After all it was his choice. He was the one chose success and fame over love.
He suppressed the tears, lit up a joint, inhaled the deeply and went to practice his guitar.
He was sure he would be with Anna again one day. In Hell.
