Obsidian sat in front of the door, waiting for her mom to take her to her new academy. She felt her jet black fur prick with unease and her tail wrapping around her paws(yes, she is a cat.) She tried to focus her green eyes on the small electric car that would take her to the huge school, where she would never see her mom for five years, except during her one month summer break or if she visited her dorm room.
“Obsidian, time to go!” Her mom called her.
“Coming!” Obsidian replied as she scurried out the door.
Obsidian got in the car as her mom started it. As her mom drove off, Obsidian started to worry. What if all the students are mean! What if the teachers hate me! What if I get bad grades! Of course, she knew this school was for Demi-god cats like her and dogs. But she thought that it had normal subjects like math and reading, but the subjects revolve almost solely on harnessing her powers. Then, a few minutes later, they pulled up in front of the school, which looked like a house. Why is it so tiny! Obsidian thought.
“Sweetie, it is time for you to go.” Her mom started. “I love you a lot, and I will see you on the weekends. But our relationship will never be the same.” Her mom started to cry.
“By, mom.” Obsidian replied, sad.
Obsidian walked out of the car door to enter the school. She turned around to look at her mom but she had already driven away. She entered the school, which opened up into a giant academy that looked like a high school. How? It looked so tiny on the outside! Obsidian thought. Then, a brown cat with black spots and tabby forehead markings, yellow eyes, a white muzzle, and white underbelly approached her, holding a clipboard.
“Hello, you must be Obsidian, right?” The cat asked her as she looked at her clipboard.
“Yes.” Obsidian whispered, looking down at her paws.
“Good. Can you please go to the door to your left. A teacher named Simone will be there to start your examination.” The cat responded.
“Okay.” Obsidian whispered.
Obsidian scampered over to the door to her left, a black cat with green eyes, a white muzzle, white underbelly, and white tail tip was standing in front of the door with a clipboard resting on his chest and pencil in his mouth.
“Hello, can you please check your name off on my list?” The cat asked Obsidian.
The cat nudged the pencil to Obsidian with his nose. Obsidian grabbed the pencil with her mouth and checked her name off the list. Then she gave the pencil back to Simone.
“So you are Obsidian?” The cat asked.
“Yes.” Obsidian whispered as she looked down at her paws.
“Good, I am Simone.” The cat responded. Simone looked at Obsidian as if he understood something deep inside her, it made Obsidian uneasy.
The two cats walked into the room. The room was small and bare except for a poster that showed air, nature, water, fire, and light.
“Stand in front of the poster.” Simone instructed.
Obsidian stood in front of the poster, looking at her paws. Simone stood across from her, about to say something.
“Focus all your energy and emotions into one, then we will see what happens.” Simone instructed.
Obsidian let all her emotions and energy ball up into one, then, she focused it on the wall next to her. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind lifted her up off the ground and nearly made her hit the ceiling. But she quickly floated back down to land, and Simone had a flash of anxiety and uncertainty in his eyes.
“Well, you will be going to the air class to learn how to harness your powers.” Simone told her.
“Okay.” Whispered Obsidian as she looked at her paws.
“You can go to the cafeteria in the hallway to your right for a school announcement.” Simone told Obsidian.
Obsidian left the room and walked to the cafeteria. She took a seat at the crowded table next to a fluffy orange cat with green eyes.
“Hi!” The cat greeted Obsidian confidently. “I am Sherbert! I come from a long line of fire gods!”
“Hi.” Obsidian whispered as she looked at her paws. “I am Obsidian.”
“Shh! The announcement is starting!” A white cat with green eyes reminded.
“Hello, students of Demi-god academy! As all returning students know, I am Kira!” The brown cat Obsidian met earlier spoke into a microphone.
“And all older students know, I am Flame!” An orange cat with a white chest path and muzzle, and green eyes stated.
“You may know me, I am Fritter.” A gray cat with black spots, a white muzzle and underbelly, and navy blue eyes added on.
“And I am Simone.” Simone finished.
“As you know, this is our first day back after summer break.” Kira started.
“But we also have new students this year, all of which are cats.” Flame added on.
“So all first year students, please come to the room behind us to meet each other!” Kira finished.
Obsidian walked up, along with Sherbert, the female white cat, a cream colored boy cat with blue eyes, and a gray female cat with white patches and amber eyes. Fritter opened the door to let the cats in, and then shut it.
“What do we do now?” The white cat asked.
“I have no idea what the heck we are supposed to do.” The gray and white cat responded.
“Let’s introduce ourselves!” The cream cat replied. “I am Cream, by the way.”
“I am Snow, don’t ask anything more.” The white cat introduced.
“Hi, I am Sherbert and I come from a long line of fire gods!” Sherbert spoke confidently.
“I am Granite, I love ice cream!” The gray and white cat spoke excitedly.
“I am Obsidian.” Obsidian whispered as she glanced at her paws. How are they all so confident?
