The movie is a dark narrative through the eyes of an office worker who is glum with the monotony of his life. He tries to fill up spaces in his heart and mind by attending rehab groups starting with a group of cancer patients. Later the film takes a dark turn as he meets a mysterious soap maker and they together start a brawling club in the underbelly of the city which eventually develops into a cult. The film put forwards a message for individuals about the messed up mentality of the society and capitalism. It tells how being a free thinker and having an individualistic personality is very important. The film also takes a hit at materialism.118Please respect copyright.PENANATsHUg3D0pr

The film ‘Fight Club’ holds many themes. The major one being ‘emasculation’. The people have made shells around themselves and lead a fake life. The protagonists in the film attempt to break away these shells by fighting, facing fear and inflicting pain on themselves and others. Another theme that is present is of ‘chaos and societal breakdown’. Supposedly, the characters are on the path to spiritual reawakening. Another visible theme is the ‘consumer culture’. The narrator talks about the shallowness in the world which has a consumerist mentality.118Please respect copyright.PENANAHEFDbI6coB

The first thing you notice about Fight Club is that it is dark. This is the trademark of David Fincher which could also be seen in his other films like Seven. The whole film has a greenish hue which gives the feel of an unfriendly environment. The film was shot on film using Panaflex Platinum Camera and Panavision lenses. The cinematographer was Jeff Coronenweth. The set had been very excellently designed to give the film the gritty feel it asked for.118Please respect copyright.PENANAVD335K3iBS

In my opinion, the film is an excellent watch. Even though released in 1999, the film is more relevant in today’s time than ever. It is a must watch. If I had to rate the film I would give it four and a half stars. The film is successful in putting forward its idea and every aspect of the film is on point be it character development, storyline, continuity or the direction itself. This is one of the ‘must not miss’ films.118Please respect copyright.PENANAG3tyYxVIhk
