一名衣衫襤褸的男人側臥在暗巷內，遠離鋪設有鵝卵石的主要幹道，面頰被濕土沾附的他眼前有數隻果蠅盤繞。他的耳際緊貼泥地，當向南的天文鐘敲響，可以聽見石道上眾人摩肩接踵的鼓噪聲，他們都為快步移動到南門，只為迎接返城歸鄉的騎兵隊。
