Poem/Prose

A child spends their days dreaming,

Backyard games and fantasies

Of their heroes and their superpowers

That are soon resigned to memory.

.

As we grow taller, and we grow older,

We accept things much more proven.

And we learn and live, and soon enough,

We watch our heroes become humans.

.

While humans are only ordinary,

That doesn't mean they are dull,

And they replace fantasy with reality,

And often go beyond.

.

The heroes become humans become role models,

Which I'll take over Batman any day,

Because heroes are only fleeting,

But role models are here to stay.

.

The reality, the role models,

They can have no doubters,

For they're real and constant and strong,

And they do it without special powers.

.

And now that I've gotten older,

My hero is a human, not a doll,

Nothing but human, a role model,

And an extraordinary one, in all.
