"Carrie, wake up. Time to get ready for school."
I groaned as my dad shook me awake. School. The worst hell I have ever experienced. I opened my eyes, peaking a glance at my father, giving him that look he never failed to understand.
He rolled his eyes a little at my pathetic attempt. "Yes, you do, Carrie. Now come on."
Providing another groan of complaint, I threw my blanket over my head, gripping it tightly. "I'm not going." He sighed and I felt the bed dent as he sat down next to me. The slight pressure of his hand touching my shoulder almost gave me the chills... Almost.
"You know, I will get a bottle of water and pour it all over you," he gave the famous dad threat that I've heard often. Something he always said he would do, but never actually does. I wondered if he will ever realize that the empty threat will never work.
Throwing the blanket down to my waist with straight arms, I gave him my world famous glare. It made everyone squirm... Except, of course, my parents. Does that mean I'll ever give up trying? Absolutely not. "Do it. I dare you." Yes, I have a mouth that usually gets me in trouble most of the time. And did I care? Not really. Smirking, he got up and grabbed a bottle of water from the dresser and proceeded to dump it on me.
"Oh no you don't!" I yelled in frustration as the water splattered onto my face. I hopped out of bed and against the wall, looking wide eyed at the laughing weirdo I called my parent. Dad walked towards me, threatening to pour some more, but I stopped him before he could. "I'm up! I swear!"
He smiled and placed the water down on my nightstand. "Good. Now wake your brother and start getting ready. Breakfast should be almost done." Walking by me, he patted my head and exited my navy blue and white room. I sighed and followed him out and down the hall to my younger brothers room.
Not that I'd ever say it out loud, but he was a pretty cool brother for being two and a half years younger; also known as thirteen. Mostly, I think it's because Noah and I have similar personalities. The funny thing is we don't even look alike. He has Mom's wavy brown hair that ends shortly above his ears. Me? I share Dad's raven black hair that ends at the middle of my back, and like my brothers, also wavy. Noah has our father's dark green eyes while I have mother's navy blue. Our personalities, we had created ourselves with a hint of our parents hidden in there... Somewhere.
Sighing, I walked into his room and over to his bed, giving him a slight shove. "Wake up weirdo and get ready," I mumbled under my breath.
Noah grumbled and forcefully plopped his pillow over his head. Getting slightly more irritated, I wrestled his pillow from his grip and whacked it over his head. "Good god, wake up you little shit!"
He turned his head so that he was facing me. His glare shot daggers at my angular face. "Did you really have to do that?!" Noah full out yelled in my face and I smirked.
"Yes I did. Now get up before I dump a bucket full of ice cubes down your pants."
Noah climbed out of bed and started walking toward the bathroom. "You're such an ass," he mumbled as he shoved me out of the way. I smirked even more than I already was, if that was even possible.
"Why thank you, my good sir."
I hopped down the stairs and I heard him mock me before closing the door to take a shower. Laughing, I walked into the kitchen and surprise, surprise, there is no breakfast. Really dad? What does 'breakfast will be ready soon' mean in your book? I walked to the fridge and pulled out the bacon and eggs while heating up a couple pans. Humming Smile by Avril Lavigne, I cut open the package holding the delicious bacon and set the strips on the pan. My favorite sound in the world filled my ears as the bacon sizzled and crisped. Cracking some eggs in a dish, I poured some milk and added some salt and pepper and then mixed it all together. Pouring that into a separate pan, I put away the extra bacon and eggs.
"When did you learn to cook?" I turned to see my dad eyeballing my breakfast cooking and I laughed.
"Since Mom taught me?" I answered slightly sarcastically while moving back to push the eggs around so they didn't burn.
"Why didn't I know this?"
"Because I prefer to keep it a secret so I don't have to cook often."
I heard his footsteps getting closer and watched as he swiped a piece of bacon and ate it. "At least you're a good cook like your mother." Dad ruffled my hair and I smiled.
"Good to know I cook decent." Mom's voice came from behind me and I turn to see Dad hugging her with one arm, smiling.
"Ew gross. Get a room!" I exclaimed, playfully covering my eyes. My fingers spread only to see my pile of breakfast on my plate. Dad laughed.
"Well I hug you all the time and yet you don't think it's gross," he mused almost to himself.
I stopped to think about it as I set my plate on the table, poking at my eggs. "Well... But... Ugh whatever! It's just different. "I scooped some eggs into my mouth, catching Dad doing a slight eye roll. Mom laughed and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
"Alright, you two have fun with that. I'm going to get Noah to hurry up so you can take a shower, Carrie," Mom said, smiling.
Dad grinned. "Oh we always have fun with it."
And of course, my smart ass attitude butts in and I scoffed. "Sure, whatever dad. And don't worry Mom. I'll get that little squirt to hurry."
Scooping up the rest of breakfast into my mouth I ran upstairs, stopping in front of the bathroom. My fist made its way into the air and pounded on the door. "Hurry up!"
"Nah, I think I'll take my time. You can smell for all I care!" Noah yelled back at me and I got to my last nerve. If he doesn't get out of there soon, I'm going to miss my shower and he will pay with his soul.
"I will break this goddamn door down and force you out!"
"And then Mom will beat your ass if you do."
"Wanna bet?" I challenged him, steaming with anger.
"You're so gonna get grounded!" He retorted.
I could feel my cheeks burning from the anger that consumed me. I finally had it. "You better cover up right now because you have three seconds before this door is coming down!"
A laugh came from the inside and I clenched my fists. "1...2..."
And the door opened and there's Noah, standing in his day clothes, looking at me unamused. "Looks like your a second late of making your dream of busting a door down come true."
Glaring at him, I pushed him out of the way and gave him the double bird before slamming the bathroom door.
