Author pops out: Now let's wind back in time and see what actually happened...
"Okay I'm done," I turned to the police. He smiled at me and led me to the police car. While riding the police car, I pondered about what just happened. Why am I in this situation? I soon fell into depression. Suddenly, I felt something heat up in my sweater pocket. Oh yeah, it's the machine thingy that I got last time. I was so bored on the car that I decided to take it out. I held it in my hands and examined it carefully. There was this little white slip of paper poking out from the bottom. I tried pulling it out, no luck. I pulled harder. This time, the machine vibrated. Slowly, the white slip came out of the machine, as if a printer. It said on the slip, " Hi, what time would you like? If you need help, press on the gold button on the opposite side." Um... what was that supposed to mean? I flipped the machine over and voila! there's a golden button. I didn't dare press it immediately though. What if it explodes? But I was so bored that I might as well press it. Something strange happened when I pressed the golden button. Everything muted around me. I looked up with a frown. What the heck?! And that was when I noticed that everything stopped moving, even the car. Okay, I've gotta calm myself. Bzzzzzz, the machine started vibrating again. I looked down and saw it printing some other words. I squinted at it:
Hello, I see that you have pressed the golden help button. Now I shall help you. Please read on. First, let me tell you my purpose of existence. I'm a time machine. When I sense that my owner is in a desperate situation or when I sense that my owner is completely absorbed in one specific emotion, I automatically turn on. When I am activated, you can use me freely within the day I'm activated. All you need to do is to think about the time where you want to go back to. I have some rules though: 1. I can only help you go to the past or the present, never the future. 2. I cannot help revive a dead human/creature, which means that however you change the past, the dead will still die, maybe in another way at around the same time. 3. The past is the past, be careful when you adjust it (this is not technically a rule but it is so important as a warning that it has to be a rule).
Okay. This is strange, but it's cool. I guess I'll try using it when I have time. We soon arrived at the police station. I've gotta say, it looked pretty shabby. We walked into the station. As soon as I walked in, I was put into handcuffs.
"What the hell is this for!" I exclaimed. I would never expect myself to be in a situation like this. But apparently, I am in one of these kinds of tricky situations. "What do you think these are for?" the police smirked," We need to find someone to blame for the death, and of course it would be you."
"How about that driver who ACTUALLY killed Anna! And people would never believe that I killed her. I'm her....I was her best friend!" I'm still not used to using past tense on Anna. Who could believe that she was just killed 30 minutes ago? " You guys are unreasonable bastards. There should still be some evidence!"
" Little girl, unfortunately for you, we are not the bastards you seem to perceive. We are actually honorable spies from your neighboring country, Detseland." As he talked, he took off his police jacket and revealed a card showing that he is a professional spy. "Now that you know my identity, you shall be killed within 24 hours. We can just put her in jail right now." the spy eyed the guard beside him while saying the last part of his sentence. I felt a shove on my back and soon I am in a dirty cell. Ughhhh! I was so infuriated! I hated those "police" with all the anger and energy I had left. Bzzzzz... It was the sound of the time machine. My eye's almost popped out of my eye socket upon seeing that a piece of straw that was flying in the air froze in midair. My heart beated furiously. What is wrong with me? Am I crazy now? Probably. An angel like voice sounded in my head," Hello. I see that you are stuck in a difficult situation. You have three choices. 1. Ignore me and keep doing what you are doing now. 2. Go back in time. 3. Make everything freeze and allow only you to move. I thought slowly and carefully, since I have all the time in the world. "Um, is it possible to combine options 2 and 3?"
"Definitely. What time do you want?" the angel-like voice replied.
Yes!!! Now the plan that I thought about previously in my head can now work. "I will choose the time when the police showed his identity card, and please freeze time right there."
Without another world, a dark vacuum appeared. I was sucked in immediately. I twisted and clumsily fluttered my arms together (due to handcuffs) in the darkness, but I didn't come out of the vacuum. It felt like hours before I finally came out of the vacuum and fell onto the ground. Ouch! I looked up and saw the "police" holding out his identification card toward me. What an idiot. I took it gratefully and stuffed it into my pocket. I was thinking of pranking him even more while he's frozen when the angel-like voice talked to me again," Even though you can go anywhere, there are limits about how much of the past you can change, and you will be very exhausted if you stay in this time for long. Now I will take you back." What?! I complained mentally, unsatisfied about my newly discovered power. Well, at least I have something that might help me in the future. The black vacuum appeared again and I fell in. Soon, I came back to the present time and my time in jail continued on.
"Little girl, stop looking so smug even though you are in jail AND you are gonna die soon." the arrogant police officer commanded. I did as told and lowered my face so that he can't see my layer of hope underneath my pretended sadness and desperateness.
Hehehe.... Little did he know, his identity card is now in my pocket. I just need to find a way to escape and show the card to the government...
