內容簡介：因為一次交通意外而失去雙足，要倚靠輪椅行動的12歲女孩蔡海迪，在一晚發現她所飼養的2歲三色混種貓新奇士突然失蹤後，她決定要憑自己的智慧把牠尋回家，她找來比自己大一歲，數學與邏輯都比自己好的鄰居馬克一同進行這次大搜索，他們決定搜查地點就集中在自己居所的兩條街範圍。

情感豐富而且經歷過嚴重意外的海迪，不時會想起已經過身的爺爺，爺爺幽默而充滿人生智慧的說話，在小小年紀的海迪的腦海裡不斷迴盪。她對死亡這件事感到好奇，她不怕鬼魂，也相信人死了其實並不可怕，靈魂在她的眼中只會變成自由的海鷗與天空星宿。她對大人們對死亡的避諱感到不解與矛盾，當大家都不想她接觸死亡這件事之時，其實她看待這件事比很多人都成熟。

與海迪作伴的馬克、外籍而會流利中文的鄰居、有潔癖的馬克母親、躲在大閘後偷望他們的神秘男人……. 當然還有用自己全部的愛去愛護海迪的爸爸媽媽，他們都為海迪展開了一次充滿冒險性的搜索行動。
