Today was bright and hot.
I walked down the street in my oversized t-shirt, a pair of leggings, and a pair of Nikes that were too large for my feet.
Cafes, libraries, and shops passed by me, as I am tempted to enter each and every single store.
I noticed a woman take something out of her bag talk to the man in front of her outside one of the cafes.
The bag. The bag was open. I saw a wallet, a gun, and some pills. It was slung on the back of her chair.
As I passed by the cafe, I slowly walked towards them.
Then I took the bag and ran for my life.
People stared at me as I ran, and I hear constant screams of what might’ve been the woman. I can hear someone chasing after me, probably the man, and getting closer by the second.
I wanted to turn to an alley and hope that I can lose him, but who knows? It might just be one of those cliche movies of the main character being backed down into the corner of an alley.
As I was reaching the subway, I felt someone grab my foot and another hand grab my hand. I lost grip of the bag and fell backwards.
Everyone around me stopped and stared at me as I noticed a police officer behind me take cuffs out.
”This is your tenth offense, Cirillo. Me and Murphy were kind enough to let you go on your first two charges due to the kindness of the victims, but this is the last straw.”
Officer Jenkins, his tag read. It was etched in a silver colored name tag pinned on his left breast. He wore a different cap the last I saw him. It was blue.
He put the cuffs on my wrists and pulled me up. The man behind him was giving the bag back to the woman who caught up with him.
”Poor girl.” I heard a woman say as I was being escorted to the police station.
