Mary Lightwood and her family are Dumaya, the correct term for a Fallen Angel. The Moroa or humans, who call the supernatural beings of the Council what you may know as mythical, mermaids, vampires, witches and werewolves. In order to save their supernatural world, the Council decides to make the younger generation go to a boarding school so that they can better understand their powers.
