I used to be scared of the dark. Every night, after I turned the lights off in my bedroom and lay down to sleep, I would begin to hear voices. There would be high-pitched voices and low-pitched voices all whispering and screaming at the same time in my ear. Sometimes, I would feel as if I was being watched. I would feel as if there was something hiding under my bed, something crouched away in the corner, something watching me through the small crack on the closet door.
Eventually, fear would take over and I would turn the lights back on. Even then, sleep did not come easy. Even though the whispers faded and all became quiet, that feeling of being watched never quite left. Where before I would feel as if there was some monster hiding somewhere, now I would feel like I was being watched by something that was ... everywhere. I don't know how to explain it.
The feeling never left even during the day, even when everything was brightened by the sun. At the time, I lived alone so I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me. The whispers I used to hear when I turned off my bedroom lights must be my mind tricking me, I thought.
Soon, my lease expired and I had to move house. The whispers in the night ceased but the feeling of being watched did not. I became more convinced that my mind was slipping. I even seeked help from a psychologist who prescribed some medicine that helped me sleep through the night but did nothing to alleviate that feeling ... the feeling that I was not alone.
Soon, things began moving in the house - something that had never happened to me in my previous residence. And the odd thing was, they never happened at night. I would be home on my day off, working on my laptop. I would go to the kitchen to get something and when coming back, I would find that things weren't in their correct position.
Paranoid, I set up cameras everywhere but I got nothing from the footage I captured. I called a christian priest from a local church who told me nothing was wrong with my house. I then called a hindu priest from a local temple who told me the same. But I knew something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong.
I don't know what triggered it but one day, I woke up and decided to revisit my old residence. I'd ask the new tenants if they could hear the whispers as I had when I lived there. However, upon arriving, I found the house locked with no one inside. I asked the neighbours and learned that the tenants had left for a holiday and would not return for a week.
I couldn't wait a week. I needed to find what was plaguing me as soon as possible. So, I broke into the house. I had a duplicate key from the time I used to live there so I let myself in. Walking back to my old bedroom, I found the bed in exactly the same position as before. I would spend the night here. I would listen to the whispers again.
Night came. I had not turned on the lights for fear of alarming the neighbours. They might call the police on me. Instead, I waited in the darkness. I lay down on the bed, closed my eyes and waited.
The whispers began. This time, instead of trying to tune out the whisper, I concentrated.

Suddenly, the whispers in my ear turned into a full fledged shriek. Clutching my ears, I jumped out of bed and hurried to turn on the light. But when I did, the shriek became louder. That was six months ago. Since then, I've been on the run. I always hole myself up in a dark place by the day and move by the night, avoiding any source of light. Whatever lives in the light knows that I know about their existence. And, I'm afraid, they will now hunt you down too since I've just told you everything.
