Nate's POV:

Darkness. That's all I saw. It's all I've been seeing for a while now. I heard every single thing, every single voice and the one I missed the most wasn't here to bring me out of this hell. I tried to open my eyes so I could see her beautiful face again but it was hard. I learned from the voice of who I guessed to be my doctor, that I was in a coma and they didn't know when I would wake up.

"Nathan I miss you so much, my beautiful boy. Please come back to us." A familiar voice said. Mom? I asked, desperately trying to open my eyes. As I tried to force myself to wake up I heard the constant beeping of the heart monitor speed up. "David something is wrong." My mom said worriedly. I felt myself easing into consciousness. My eyes slowly fluttered open and the bright lights instantly made me groan.

"Well, I wasn't expecting it to be so bright when I finally woke up," I said with displeasure. "Nathan!" My mom yelled while rushing to hug me. "Hi mom, you act as if you haven't seen me in months. I've only been out for what like three or four hours?" I said jokingly. They looked at me with sympathy, leaving me baffled at their faces. "What?" I asked worriedly. "Son, you've been in a coma for eight months. It's September the 10th." My Dad said shockingly. "What?! No...that can't be true. Where is Angelina?! I want to see her." I said quickly. "I'll go get a doctor," Dad mumbled before walking out of the room. I calmed myself down after noticing the tears in my mom's eyes. "Mom, my feet are sore can I go for a walk?".

"You may not. You can use a wheelchair but you have to go through psychical therapy first before you try to walk again." A voice, Dr. Silver said while walking into the room with my Dad in tow. "Fine. Well, can I go in a wheelchair?" I asked hopefully. "Yeah you can, after I do some tests and then can you get him something to eat from the cafeteria, please? He needs to start building his muscles again." Dr. Silver said to my parents. They nodded and my Dad left once again to get a wheelchair, and as I looked at my surroundings and think about the eight months I've lost, I couldn't help but ask myself.

How much has changed?

I felt a sense of relief when I stuffed myself with two burgers from the cafeteria after going through many of Dr. Silver's tests. I guess eight months of being in a coma makes you hungry for real food and not some tube filled with nutrients. As I finished my meal, I frowned noticing that Angelina still wasn't here yet. "Where is Angelina? I thought you called her." I asked my parents.

"She isn't answering. Nor is her brother. Let's just go back to your room son. I'm sure she'll be here later." My dad replied. I nodded with a sense of sadness and let them wheel me out of the cafeteria in silence.

"We need a crash cart here!" I heard someone yell as they wheeled in a stretcher carrying a lifeless figure. "We've got a female. 17 years old, tried to overdose with antidepressants. Has stage three leukemia." I heard them say. How strange, I said to myself. Poor girl. I watched as they continued to move slowly while trying to put a tube in her arm.

"Where are you taking her?!" I heard a familiar voice yell. I turned around in confusion and froze when I saw who it was. "Josh?" I asked unsurely. "What's going on where's Angelina? Is she finally here?". "Nate...you're awake. Oh bloody hell, Nate she tried to kill her self. T-that was Angelina." He said while stuttering. "I- What- What do you mean she tried to kill herself? What's happened in the past eight months?!" I yelled.

"Nate...I'm sure you know that Angelina was bullied before she came here. She's been seeing a therapist because she gets nightmares about it. I thought she was doing better after she started taking the anti-depressants but yesterday they wanted to take you off of life support. They thought you wouldn't wake up and it broke her." He explained. I gasped with shock, but it was soon replaced with anger when I realized that this was my fault.

"Crap. I'm so sorry. This is my-." I was suddenly cut off by the sound of shoes pounding on the floor. "What happened?! Is she gonna be alright? Oh God, she tried to kill herself. We shouldn't have let her go home by herself. Oh, God." A boy said to Josh. "Wait Ashton hold on. What happened before she left?" Josh asked the boy, Ashton.

"I asked her to show me to the cafeteria and she gave me a tour. She bumped into a lady who was crying and said that they wanted to take him off of life support. At first, I was confused until she explained and showed me her boyfriend's condition. She looked so broken, but she said she wanted to go home alone so she left."

"This is my fault isn't it?" I asked slowly. "Nate, you literally were in a coma how could this be your fault?" Josh said while rolling his eyes. "Oh. Wow, I didn't see you there. I'm Ashton and I'm glad you're awake." Ashton said while shaking my hand. "I'm Nate as I'm guessing you already know," I muttered.

"God Ashton you run fast." A soft, familiar voice said from behind me. I turned around and instantly smiled when I saw Alli. "Alli," I said while moving my wheelchair around to hug her, or at least hug her feet. "Nate?! You're awake? When did you wake up?!". "Uhm about two hours ago...I hope you took care of my Angel for me while I was gone."

She chuckled nervously, while I raised my eyebrow at her. "Yeah...sure I did." She said unconvincingly. I shook my head while ignoring what she said.

"Family of Angelina Winters?" A voice asked. "Yes." We all said at the same time causing the doctor to look at us weirdly. "She's stable. Your lucky that you called the ambulance at the right time or else she wouldn't have made it." The doctor said with sympathy filling his tone. "When can we see her?" Josh asked. "You can see her now but only two people at a time."

"Ok well Nate, you can come to see her with me since you haven't seen her in months," Josh said while gesturing towards the room door. I nodded and followed behind him, not feeling prepared for the sight I might find behind that door.

When I walked in, very true to my word, I was not prepared for what I saw. There she was laying on the hospital bed with a beanie covering her now bald head. Her skin though, was no longer pale and even with all the tubes she still looked beautiful. I ran my hand down her cheek as a few tears fell from my eyes. I leaned down close to her ear and whispered the words I heard her say whilst I was surrounded by darkness.

"I love you too."

"I'm so sorry I couldn't be here for you these last eight months. Some boyfriend I am huh?" I said, knowing that she couldn't answer. "Nate...?" I heard a small voice call out. I looked down and found Angelina's pretty eyes staring up at me in disbelief. "Y-you're not awake. N-no this isn't real. You're not real. Go away!" She yelled suddenly.

"Hey, Angel it is me. I'm awake and I'm sorry that it took me so long.". "It really was you...you said "I love you too."."

I looked at her with a nervous grin but nodded. "Angelina?" Josh said while entering the room with two cups on his hands. "Josh...Josh? I- No I'm so sorry. What the bloody hell have I done?! I didn't mean too. I didn't even realize what I was doing until it was too late." She mumbled. "Angelina...listen to me. I know you regret this, but things will change after now. I called Maria and she's going to see you every day for therapy sessions, Uncle Alessandro is coming here for a while to keep an eye on you while I'm working and you're not going to school anymore. You'll be homeschooled. I'm not doing this just because of o-of what you um....tried to do but also because of you're cancer. I want you to be healthy and happy not alone and stressed." He told her.

She bit her lip, as if trying to suppress the things she wanted to say, and nodded slowly. "Doesn't Uncle John have work?" She asked unsurely. "He's going to work with me. You know how he is, he'd do anything for you even if you're not his blood-related niece."

She turned to me with a frown as she eyed my wheelchair. "Are you ok?". "I'm fine Angel.". "You're being quiet, you're not usually quiet." She said with concern. "I'll give you guys some more privacy," Josh said while walking out and closing the door. I moved closer to her and held her warm hands. "I've missed you. It hurts that you had to go through this while I wasn't here but I'm here now and I'll help you every step of the way. Even if I've been absent for most of our relationship, I did mean what I said. I do love you. It may be too soon and you don't have to say it ba-.".

"I love you too." She said suddenly with a grin. I chucked and continued. "Well then, I'm here now. What have I missed?". "Oh, you missed a lot." She said while giggling. "I'll tell you everything. Let's start with the day after you're surgery." She began, and as I watched her eyes twinkle with a tiny bit of spark, I knew that the Angelina I knew and loved was still there,
