言黛雲的家鄉變成殖民地時，她被迫和一位軍官共結連理，離開心愛之人與家鄉的她心力交瘁，終日面無表情。在鏡頭前她必須扮演成一位深愛丈夫的模範妻子，還得展現自己在新政府的帶領下過得安穩舒適的模樣，試圖傳達安定的力量給家鄉人民，告訴他們：我比以前舊政府時期過得更幸福。

可惜現實是，一旦回到臥房關上房門，她就有和丈夫吵不完的架，還得定期看心理醫生，因為丈夫害怕自己哪天從高處縱身跳下......

而她要的，只是與自己心愛之人在家鄉白頭偕老，如此簡單。
