Wind howled over the large ship as waves of silver crashed against it, water rushing over the edges and into us. Rain and hail fell from the sky, hitting everyone who was trying to keep the ship from sinking. Unless we managed to break free of the devilish waves that were trying to sink us, we wouldn't make it to the morning hours.
Even as my trembling hands tightened on the slippery rope, my body soaked to the bone from the worn-out clothing, I still had hope. Hope that we would survive this storm like so many before it. As the ship rocked, the rope getting a mighty tug from my hands, I began to wonder about that hope.
