"Huh?" Tails and Sonic's gasped as their eyes shot open and sat up. The clear blue sky above them was now drastically changing to darkness by the heavy black storm clouds spewing rain and lightning. "I don't recall rain being on the forecast this week." Tails said. A blue bolt of lightning struck an nearby tree so hard that the tree to lost a branch, causing Sonic and Tails to jump to their feet. "Maybe not," Sonic said. "but we better get out of here before we become burnt toast!" However, before Sonic or Tails could head toward safety there was an earthquake that caused the ledge Sonic and Tails were standing on to plummet into the water below. Panic flooded Sonic and Tails as they plummeted to the water below them. With no where to run Sonic and Tails had no choice but to be submerged in water. Tails' two tails began to spin in a circular motion which allowed him to propel himself upward to get air. Sonic on the other hand was not as fortunate and kicked wildly trying to get to the surface for air, but to no avail as he was tossed helplessly with the current. Tails who's head was above the water looked around and noticed that Sonic was no where to be seen above water. After taking a deep breath, Tails submerged again under the water using his two tails to help him speed up with the current. Tails looked frantically trying to locate his blue friend, and just as hope was leaving him. He noticed his blue friend in the distance holding on to the root of a tree trying to climb out, but was helpless against the strength of the current. Tails knew he didn't have much time and quickly swam toward Sonic trying desperately to reach him, but at that moment a giant wave formed sending so much force that the root snapped and sent Sonic and Tails sailing with the current. Tails tried to swim, but now the current was too strong for even him. Tails was tossed back and forth getting hit with rocks and debris. Tails could see Sonic beside him being thrashed violently and enduring similar punishment. All Tails wanted to do was help his friend, but he couldn't even save himself. Was this the end of their journey? Just as Tails felt he couldn't hold his breath any longer a nearby earthquake caused a stirring in the water that rocketed Sonic and Tails in the air. Tails now seeing his friend clearly, grabbed Sonic's arm and tried to use his two tails to fly, but the duo was soaking wet, which was far too heavy for Tails to remain airborne. Sonic's arm was slipping out of Tails' wet grapes as they continued to plummet toward the earth below Tails grabbed Sonic's hand tightly and began to propel his tails faster than he had ever before. This didn't stop Tails from falling but at least it slowed him down, however, in the process Sonic's wet hand slipped out of Tails' grasp. Thankfully, they weren't far from the ground, Sonic landed in a pile leaves softening his landing. Tails landed next to the pile, and rushed to his friend. "Sonic!" He pleaded, shaking him. Sonic coughed and his emerald eyes showing as his eye lids slowly opened, he looked at Tails and said, "Uh... I hate water..." Relieved Tails put his arms around his friend. "I'm glad your alive." He said as a tear ran down his cheek. "Me too buddy, me too." Sonic said his voice low, pating Tails on the back. Another roar of thunder echoed across the landscape. "We probably ought to get to somewhere safer though, do you have any clue where we are?" Sonic asked. As Sonic sat up, coughing up more water. As Tails stood up he noticed his left arm was sore and rubbed it as he looked around, his countenance saddened by the massive damage done to the landscape. A few small plants remained still standing, but a few trees had been uprooted with most of their leaves ripped off of them. "Not really," Tails sighed. Suddenly he was struck by a bolt of lightning and landed back on the ground next to the cave entrance. The two soldiers and Tails caught up to Sonic, who now looked black, due to the shock of the lightning. "I hate water..." Sonic groaned. Tails looked at Sonic sympathetically and said, "Come on Sonic, let's get inside."
