The Rock from the Way
One day, walking down the Way, a little girl spied a little sphere. It was a red rock, and though she saw she liked the shape, she couldn't commend the color. So she took the pebble with her, planning to paint it when she got back. Green and Blue she decorated it, deciding that was grand. Imagining, intrinsic lives living on the stone, she stopped studying and stopped sleeping, only to observe her work. She pretended there were all sorts of things living on her treasure, and quickly began to treasure her beliefs as much as her reality. Really, she was quite a castout, quarantined from her kin. Kindly, someone stole her rock, thinking it was not a sin and cast it into an unknown space. Yet without it in her hands she could not love her little things that she imagined. At first she thought they were drowning, so she dreamed as hard as she could that one might build a boat. Then she thought they were starving so she imagined some bread floating down to it. Then she figured they were angry with her so she imagined it was hard to hear each other whenever they spoke. Finally in all her rage she she set a threatening blaze. She said she'd let it burn unless it was returned. She haunts herself with her past, and though she searches still. She knows it's beyond repair and must build up a new one, even if it's now bare.
