Young protagonist Veronica is found in an abandoned house when she is taken in by the last humans known in existence.  Due to a gas released one day, the zombies turn human at sunrise and zombies at sundown.  Veronica and the group of survivors are the only people who weren't zombies when the gas was released.  But how did it happen?  The factory that it was contained in was in good shape, right?
