看似普通的城市裡，存在著一個「桃花源」，車水馬龍的大馬路旁有間日治時期所留下的神社，神社旁有條羊腸小徑，鑽進去後，穿過爬滿植物的紅色圍牆，來到了郁郁菁菁的綠色隧道，隧道的盡頭是間筆記本專賣店—墨本書林。

裡頭賣的是有靈魂的筆記本，各種不同的筆記本裡住著各種各樣的靈魂，這些靈魂人類摸不到，用筆記本去碰他們，他們會回到裡頭，除非把筆記本打開，否則裡頭的靈魂是出不來的，店裡一切都受到筆記本之神眷顧著。

「翻開筆記本時要小心，你看你把小米放出來了。」

「小、小米？這隻貓嗎？我、我沒有放牠出來啊！」

「你打開了祂的家。」

筆記本之神選之人，保護著筆記本，更要保護這個給了筆記本們一個家的少年。
