Hello writers!

My name is Alice and welcome to my first ever contest I'm hosting here on Penana! I hope to start running monthly writing contests here in the future, should this contest go well. To be notified of new updates, feel free to follow my account here!

This is The First Sentence Challenge! How this works is I give you all the first sentence, which you must use as the first sentence in your entries. It is then up to you to write whatever you want. Whether it is a spooky story, a love story, anything! This contest will be open for entries for three weeks and only one entry per writer is accepted! I will be the sole judge for this contest, here is what I'm looking for:

- Characters that are relatable 

- Story-lines that are creative

- Good plot twists that I personally wouldn't have seen coming

- Good use of correct spelling and grammar

RULES:

Entries must be written in English!

No gore, violence or erotica accepted!

Swearing must be kept to a minimum!

Word Count: 500-3,000 words (would be really handy if you disclaim somewhere in your entry the total word count!)

There will be a first, second and third place entry. You are more than welcome to read and comment on other entries submitted. You may edit your entry up until the closing date. After the closing date, you won't be allowed to edit. Judge's decision is final. 

The First Sentence is: 'When the door slammed, I had to run.'
